Meningitis Outbreak Update โ South East
Current publicโhealth advice confirms that only students living in the affected university accommodation are being offered vaccination at this time, as part of the targeted programme responding to the Canterbury/Kent outbreak.
This approach reflects UKHSAโs assessment of risk and is consistent with their announcement that vaccination is focused on students living in halls of residence at the University of Kent.
UKHSA has stated that the situation is rapidly developing, with contact tracing and antibiotic prophylaxis continuing for close contacts and anyone who visited Club Chemistry during the risk dates.
What You Should Do
It remains important for everyone to be aware of early symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia, as these conditions can progress very quickly.
UKHSA emphasises that signs such as fever, headache, rash that doesnโt fade under pressure, vomiting, cold hands/feet, confusion, and rapid deterioration require urgent attention.
If you or someone you know develops symptoms:
๐ Seek urgent medical help via NHS 111
๐ Call 999 in an emergency
