📣 Meningitis Outbreak Update – Important Information for Our Patients

We are aware of concerns following the recent meningitis outbreak in Kent. UKHSA has confirmed 15 cases and is currently running a targeted Men B vaccination programme only for students living in halls at the University of Kent. T

This is not a wider public programme at this time.

If you’ve been advised to check your vaccination history (e.g., by a university), you can view your past vaccines via the NHS App under your GP health record.
👉 Please note: We are not currently able to offer Men B vaccinations unless national guidance changes.

What You Should Do
It remains important for everyone to be aware of early symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia, as these conditions can progress very quickly.
UKHSA emphasises that signs such as fever, headache, rash that doesn’t fade under pressure, vomiting, cold hands/feet, confusion, and rapid deterioration require urgent attention.
If you or someone you know develops symptoms:
👉 Seek urgent medical help via NHS 111
👉 Call 999 in an emergency

🎄 Festive Season Message for Our Patients

We would like to wish all of our patients a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year — it means a great deal to our whole team.

Our team will be taking a short, well‑deserved break over the festive holidays. If you need urgent medical advice while we are closed on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, simply call the practice number and you’ll be re-directed to NHS 111. For emergencies, always dial 999.

If you need to see a GP during the holiday season, you can also access a remote GP appointment through LIVI - https://www.livi.co.uk/see-a-gp/

Wishing you all a safe and peaceful festive break 🎄

📢 Important Update on Appointments 📢

We are currently experiencing a very high demand for urgent appointments due to a peak in flu cases. Unfortunately, this is affecting waiting times for all of our GPs.

👉 Unless you have an urgent medical need, we kindly ask that you book the next available routine appointment, reserving same‑day appointments for those who clinically need them.

💡 Please remember, you don’t always need to see a GP:

Pharmacists can provide expert advice and treatment for many conditions.

Minor Injuries Units are available for non-life-threatening issues.

Self-care options may be suitable for common illnesses.

💻 Alternatively, you can consult a GP remotely via the LIVI app, which often has appointments available within a week.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this busy period. 🙏

With Livi you can see a GP via video, wherever you are. We can help you with medical advice, prescriptions, sick notes or a referral.

🩺 A Gentle Reminder from Quay Lane Surgery 🩺

We’re proud to support our patients by loaning out blood pressure monitors to help with home readings. These devices are a shared resource, and we rely on their return to continue offering this service to others.

If you’ve borrowed a BP monitor — especially one kindly loaned by a GP without being formally signed out — we’d be very grateful if you could return it to the surgery when you're able.
Your help means we can keep supporting everyone in our community 💙

Thank you so much for your kindness and cooperation!
