A reading list for curious souls. 🫶🏻

These are a few of my favourite books, from Shamanism, to women’s studies, to healing trauma + beyond.

If it’s a ‘vintage’ copy, then I’m even happier, but most of these books are fortunately still in print + I love nothing more than visiting independent book shops with a hot coffee. ☕️

I’m going back to school. 🎓

I’ll be 33 when I officially return to University + follow a dream I thought was over.

A dream I carefully buried + laid to rest, during a time in my life when I thought the realms of academia were for everyone but me.

I started at age 21, studying psychology, social sciences, criminology + sports coaching - a journey that spanned 6 years + multiple deferrals due to life experiences.

For many moons, I have dreamt about a different career. Inspired by those that danced in the darkness, weaving their words + supporting the healing of our psyches.

I began to realise that perhaps the first time around, I just wasn’t ready.

There were many underworld journeys to traverse.

There were many relationships which taught me the powers of attachment + not always in the best ways.

There were moments of excruciating pain, physically + mentally that taught me resilience + how to move toward the future when all I wanted to do was leave.

Inspired, always, by films of those that chose to challenge the status quo, to go against the grain + carve out a new life for themselves.

In honour of younger Melissa, who despite thinking she was not academically minded, actually passed her exams, tried new things + always held within her heart the desire to be the best she could be with what she held in her hands.

So, together, we take that step once more through the doors into a decision that has not been made lightly, but one that carries a gift perhaps on the other side - one where we can make a difference in the ways that we always dreamed.

Here’s to starting over, for it is never too late + you were + are always enough - I promise you.

Ah my whole heart. 🫶🏻🤍

Moments in time, captured forever through the eyes of another (.photography to be exact) 🌬️.

The magick of the camera has always held a special place in my heart + in my early 20s I endeavoured to become a photographer. I still own my collection of Polaroid + 35mm Film cameras, occasionally taking them on adventures with me for the joy found when working with Film is still so satisfying.

But in recent years, I’ve found myself front + centre, not behind the camera happily clicking away.

Being in front of the lens feels edgy.
You meet your ego head on.
You meet your wounds.
You meet the smile you rarely see in selfies.
You meet You, the Self.

It can feel uncomfortable, because these are the parts of us we hide, sometimes without noticing.

Ash, (Yin Spirit) creates, opens + holds the space with so much depth + strength. Flow is encouraged to awaken + the Wild rises - we had a lot of fun + these shots make me smile so much.

These lands guided us + the vastness of the forest is what drew us there.

Root + Weave, though birthed in November 2023, has lived within my bones + psyche for years.

Descending, returning, descending, returning, the essence of this space has held me, nurtured me, kept me going for its sweet whisper will not be silenced by fear or the desire to hide.

Expansion, vastness + the opening of our hearts is what we’re inviting into our journeys in 2025 + I’m so honoured to meet you there. ⚡️🌿

April moments 🌦️🪴

A month of new beginnings, meeting edges + tending to the Earth (plus, Marnie + Luna’s birthday + I have a whole post dedicated to them if you’d like to see their little faces 😻).

This beautiful New Moon has ushered in a profound sense of calm. It’s as though my anchor has dropped deeper into the depths, rooting these bones I call home.

April has looked like countrylane drives, planting the seeds, nurturing my garden, painting, drumming, yoga, hands on trees, warm sunlight on my skin, hot coffee, Cacao, apricot tulips, Wild Weavings, reminders to trust, gentle rainfall, reciprocity, rest + quiet moments observing Spring.

It’s also looked like stress at work, a sprained ankle, late nights + blood tests.

It’s all a part of it. 🌀

Spring reminds me that even the toughest of Winters cannot stop the bloom. So, I to, am ready to bloom.
