One of the most common questions I’m asked is: “Am I asleep when I’m in trance?”
The simple answer is — no!
Although trance and sleep may look similar from the outside, they’re actually quite different experiences for the mind.
💤 Sleep is when your conscious and subconscious minds both take a break — your body rests and restores, and you’re generally unaware of what’s happening around you.
🌀 Trance, on the other hand, is a natural, focused state of awareness. It’s that same feeling you get when you’re so absorbed in a good book or daydream that time seems to disappear. During hypnosis, your body relaxes deeply, but your mind remains alert and responsive — open to positive suggestions and insight.
In trance, you’re always in control, and you can hear and remember what’s said. It’s a collaborative process between you and your hypnotherapist — not something that’s “done to you.”
So, while it might look like sleep from the outside, trance is actually a powerful state of focused relaxation — where real change can happen.
