Who is sports massage for? 🤔

Short answer — almost everyone.

Sports massage isn’t just for elite athletes. It’s for anyone who:
✔️ Trains hard in the gym
✔️ Plays sport at any level
✔️ Works a physical job
✔️ Sits at a desk all day
✔️ Feels tight, sore, or restricted

Whether you want to improve performance, recover faster, prevent injury, or simply move better day to day — sports massage can help.

Your body works hard for you.
Look after it.

🚫 “I can feel a slipped disc.”
No — you can’t. And neither can I.

Intervertebral discs sit deep within the spine, protected by bone, ligaments, and muscle.
They are not palpable — meaning no hands-on therapist can directly feel a disc.

👉 What can be assessed?
• Muscle tone & guarding
• Movement quality
• Pain behaviour
• Neurological signs
• Functional limitations

Good sports massage isn’t about guessing anatomy — it’s about clinical reasoning, movement assessment, and treating what we can influence.

🧠 Assess. Don’t guess.
📍 Sports massage should be evidence-informed, not myth-led.

One of the biggest myths we hear in clinic is “I need to change the way I sleep.”

The truth? There’s no perfect sleeping position.
Side, back or front — what matters most is that you’re comfortable and sleeping well.

Good sleep supports muscle recovery, reduces tension, and helps your body adapt to training and daily stress.
If you’re waking up stiff or sore, it’s often more about load, recovery, and tissue health than how you slept.

That’s where sports massage can help — keeping your body moving well, whatever position you wake up in.

Why deep squats get a bad reputation

Deep squats are often blamed for knee and back injuries — but in reality, poor technique, lack of mobility, or excessive load are the real culprits.

Why squatting deep is actually safe (and beneficial):

✔️ Your body is designed to squat – humans have squatted deeply for thousands of years
✔️ Proper depth distributes load better across hips, knees, and ankles
✔️ Improves joint mobility in hips and ankles
✔️ Strengthens muscles through full range, not just partial movement
✔️ Can reduce injury risk when performed with good control and appropriate load

When deep squats can cause problems

⚠️ Limited ankle or hip mobility
⚠️ Poor technique or spinal control
⚠️ Loading too heavy, too soon

💡 Depth isn’t the problem — preparation and movement quality are.

The Top 3 Myths of Sports Massage 💭

Sports massage is often misunderstood, so let’s clear a few things up 👇

❌ Myth 1: It’s only for athletes
✅ Truth: Sports massage is for everyone — gym-goers, desk workers, tradespeople, runners, and anyone dealing with aches or tight muscles.

❌ Myth 2: It has to hurt to work
✅ Truth: Effective treatment should be controlled, purposeful, and tailored to you — not unnecessarily painful.

❌ Myth 3: It’s only for injuries
✅ Truth: Sports massage is just as useful for prevention, recovery, mobility, and performance, not just rehab.

Understanding your body leads to better results 💪
If you’re unsure whether sports massage is right for you, feel free to get in touch.

January brings motivation, goals… and unfortunately, injuries.

Every year I see the same issues from people jumping straight into intense training after time off. The most common injuries in new gym and fitness starters include:

🔴 Muscle strains – doing too much, too soon
🔴 Lower back pain – poor lifting technique or weak core
🔴 Shoulder pain – overloading pressing movements
🔴 Knee pain – sudden increases in running, squats, or classes
🔴 Tendon issues – repetitive movements without recovery

The good news?
Most of these are preventable with proper load management, recovery, and maintenance.

Sports massage can help:
✔️ Reduce muscle tension
✔️ Improve movement and flexibility
✔️ Support recovery as training volume increases
✔️ Keep you training consistently — not sidelined

Train smart. Recover properly. Start the year strong 💪

Does creatine work?

Yes — creatine is one of the most researched supplements in sport and performance.

✅ What it can do:
• Increase strength and power output
• Improve high-intensity exercise performance
• Support muscle growth over time

❌ What it isn’t:
• It’s not a steroid
• It doesn’t replace good training or nutrition
• It won’t cause instant results without consistency

💡 Bottom line:
Creatine works — but only when combined with smart training, recovery, and proper fueling.

Recovery matters just as much as performance.

Are ice baths actually worth it? 🧊

Ice baths (cold water immersion) are popular with athletes — but they’re not always the best option.

✅ They may help
• Reduce pain and soreness after intense or competitive events
• Provide short-term relief when recovery time is limited

⚠️ But they’re not ideal for everyone
• Regular ice baths can reduce strength and muscle growth
• They don’t fix tissue damage or prevent injury
• They can blunt natural training adaptations if overused

💡 Bottom line:
Ice baths can be useful occasionally, but they shouldn’t be your go-to recovery tool. Long-term recovery is better supported by smart training, rest, movement, and manual therapy.

If you’re unsure what recovery methods suit your training — get professional guidance.
