Amid the rising pressure on emergency services and our colleagues in A&E, we’d like to gently remind Patients of community services available to them, for common winter illness treatment.

Most of these illnesses are caused by viruses, so won’t respond to antibiotics. They are also generally self-limiting, unless you have a serious health condition or compromised immune system.

Community pharmacies are now able to provide prescription-only medication, including antibiotics, for 7 common conditions; Sinusitis (>12y), Sore Throat (>5y), Earache (1-17y), UTIs (Women 16-64y), Shingles (>18y), Impetigo (>1y) and Infected Insect Bites (>1y).

Please before attending A&E/ hospitals. Not only are these services already under enormous pressure, you are also putting yourself at higher risk of catching circulating illnesses such as norovirus, Flu, RSV and COVID.

If you are unsure about your symptoms or which service is best for you, please use the NHS 111 symptom checker available online or via the NHS App, or call 111 and they will assess and advise you.

Pilgrims Hospices offer a range of bereavement services that can support families, carers and loved ones through this difficult time.

Dear Patients,

This is a gentle reminder that we are closed tomorrow and Boxing Day and will resume normal operations from 8am on Friday.

If you need medical help over the next couple of days, all Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) including Deal, Margate, Canterbury and Whitstable are open 365 days a year, 8am - 8pm.

NHS 111 (online and telephone) operate 24 hours a day, including bank holidays.

Please attend A&E or call 999 in the event of a medical emergency.

Please see below for local pharmacy opening times, if you need any over-the-counter or minor illness treatment.

This is a gentle reminder that if you need any prescriptions prior to the Christmas period, please order them now. Requests can be made via the NHS app or request forms in Reception.

Generally speaking, we accept requests up to 10 days early, unless you’ve been told otherwise due to the nature of your medication.

Advance notice - we will be closed on Christmas/Boxing Day (Weds 25th and Thurs 26th) and resume normal operations from 8am on Friday 27th. We will also be closed New Years Day (Weds 1st Jan) and resume normal operations from 8am on Thursday 2nd Jan.

If you need help during these periods -

Medical Emergency - Call 999 / Attend A&E
Emergency REPEAT prescription - Call 111/ 111 online via the NHS App
Advice on minor illness or ailments - 111 or UTC
Injury, burns or sprains - UTC

It is our understanding that our 2 local pharmacies (Boots Sandwich and Eastry Pharmacy) will also be closed on the aforementioned dates.
