As we approach Dementia Action Week 2025, there is a lot happening to support people living with a dementia in the local area this week hosted by the Dementia & Me team at Age Concern Sandwich.

The Drop in Hub at St George’s Church, Deal, Wednesday 21st May, 1.30 - 3.30. For information and advice.

And the ever informative Dementia Awareness Roadshow at Sandwich Guildhall on Thursday 22nd May, 10 - 2pm. We are looking forward to welcoming a host of organisations who will showcase their services and support available to those with a dementia and their families.

Understanding Dementia Better
On the 23rd of January we are running an online session on Understanding Dementia Better, free training for Carers, friends and family members of those with dementia.
During this session, our expert training team will support you to understand dementia better, offering you small and easy steps that can make a big difference.
The 2-hour sessions are informal, and a great opportunity to meet and learn from other people in similar situations to you.
We actively encourage questions, which you can ask during the session or send to us before-hand.

The Sunflower Centre, Dementia Services in Sandwich. will be at attending this amazing event.

The upcoming Living Well with Dementia Show on October 21st is going to be busy with a speaker programme in the morning and many different stands providing information, advice, support and activities from many community sevices.

There will be a pop-up cafe with a range of refreshments in the School Dining Hall and also separate Quiet space if anyone needs some peace and quiet.

Professional carers will be at this event and support services such as Age UK.

If you have received a dementia diagnosis, or caring for someone who has, and need some support our dementia services team will be happy to help. 🌻

Big news from NHS England. 🚨

It's being reported that record numbers of people in England have received a dementia diagnosis in the past year.

We're pleased to hear that more people are getting the diagnosis they need.

And, we're getting close to meeting the 66.7% target for diagnosis rates.

This is thanks to a huge, concerted effort from the to get those rates up.

A good result, but there's still a lot of work to do.

Early and accurate diagnosis is vital in helping someone get the care, support, and treatment they need.

A third of people with dementia in England are living without a diagnosis, and there's big variation in diagnosis rates based on where you live.

This needs to change.

We need bold, ambitious and achievable new targets to make sure everyone gets the diagnosis they need.

And we're ready to support NHS England in any way we can to get more people diagnosed.
