D is for Danger!
When responding to any emergency, the very first step is to follow DRABC – and it all starts with D: Danger assessment.

🚨 It’s easy to forget this when adrenaline kicks in – especially if you're helping a loved one – but your safety must come first.

Before rushing in, remember to:
✅ Protect yourself and the casualty from infection, chemicals, gas or fire
✅ Look for hazards like traffic, electricity, or unstable structures
✅ Assess the scene – what happened, and who needs help?
✅ Prioritise the most critically injured – breathing and catastrophic bleeding always comes first
✅ Stay aware of your environment – don’t become the second casualty!

🧠 Stay calm, stay safe, save lives.

Short answer: Both – but in the right order!

☀️ Sunburn is a type of burn – and first aid starts with cooling the skin. Run the sunburnt area under cool water for 20 minutes. This helps draw out the heat and reduce further skin damage.

💧 Once the skin has cooled, apply aftersun to help restore moisture and soothe irritation.

But there’s more to recovery than just topical treatment:
✅ Drink plenty of water – sunburn can lead to dehydration
✅ Stay in the shade – to avoid worsening symptoms
✅ Rest – your body needs energy to heal

⚠️ When to seek medical help:
☀️ Blistered or swollen skin
☀️ Very high temperature or feeling hot and shivery
☀️ Dizziness, sickness, or extreme tiredness
☀️ Headache and/or muscle cramps
☀️ A baby or young child is sunburnt

🌞 Prevention is always better than cure – but accidents happen. Knowing the right first aid makes all the difference.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly!

Knowing how to help, can save a life!

👉 A helpful reminder: Loud & Red, let them go ahead. Silent and blue, they need help from you. If the person can cough, they can breathe. Just encourage them to keep coughing.

If they’re silent, we need to step in.

❗️Follow the steps for adults and children over 1:
- Stand behind and slightly to the side of the person
- lean the person slightly forward and support their chest with one arm
- apply 5 sharp blows between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.
If it does not clear:
- stand behind the person
- bend them forward slightly
- place both arms around their waist
- place your fist just above the belly button. Place the other hand over it
- pull sharply in and up under the ribs
- if no success after 5 sharps blows to the back and 5 abdominal thrusts, call 999
- if they become unconscious or floppy, start CPR

❗️Children under 1:
- sit down and lay the child face down on your thigh
- apply 5 sharp blows between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand
- if no success, lie baby face up along your thigh - find middle of breast bone, place two fingers in the centre
- apply 5 sharp chest thrusts pushing down by a third. If you’re struggling to remove the object call 999.

When the object is clear, get the person checked out by a medical professional.

Asthma attacks can be scary—for both the person experiencing it and those around them. Knowing what to do could make all the difference.

Here's how you can help:

🪑 Step 1: Sit them down and keep them calm
Panic can make things worse. Help them find a comfortable position, ideally upright, and encourage slow, steady breathing.

🤝 Step 2: Reassure them
A calm voice can help ease their anxiety. Let them know you're there and ready to help.

💊 Step 3: Help them use their inhaler
Ensure they use their inhaler. If you’re unsure how to help with this, ask them—they’ll likely know exactly what they need. They should take one puff every 30-60 seconds, for up to 10 puffs.

🚨 Call 999 if…
- It’s their first attack.
- Their medication doesn’t work after 10 puffs
- they feel worse at any point.

Every second counts, so don’t hesitate to act. Let’s spread this knowledge—it could save a life. Share this post to raise awareness!

💡 In an emergency, every second counts. Do you know what to do?

Let us introduce you to a simple yet powerful acronym: CLAP 👏

C.L.A.P. stands for:

👉 C – Control the situation
Stay calm. Take a deep breath. Your clear mind can save a life.

👉 L – Look for hazards
Check your surroundings. Are there dangers to you, the casualty, or others?

👉 A – Assess the situation
Is anyone injured? How serious is it? Who needs help first?

👉 P – Protect and Prioritise
Make the scene safe, give appropriate first aid, and call for help.

Knowing CLAP is a game changer — but practical training brings it to life.

First Aid Training gives you the confidence to step up when it matters most.
✅ Recognise signs of danger
✅ Deliver lifesaving treatment
✅ Stay in control under pressure

👥 Whether it’s for your family, your workplace, or a stranger — be the person who knows what to do.
