Christmas can be stressful and emotionally challenging, especially for people with dementia and their families. Here are some tips to help you prepare. 💙

🕰️ It can be helpful to try to maintain some normal routines over Christmas.

🛒 Vital services like pharmacies, shops and GPs have reduced opening hours over the Christmas period. Planning ahead ensures you have everything you might need.

🕯️ Think about how you can adapt traditions so the person with dementia can continue to participate.

🎁 The person with dementia could help with festive preparations, such as wrapping presents, sending cards or putting up decorations.

🍽️ Consider if there’s any food the person with dementia prefers, and the portion sizes they normally eat.

🎬 You could ask a friend or family member to sit with the person with dementia, listen to music or watch your favourite film.

Many people don’t always feel comfortable asking for help — sometimes it’s not about needing “care,” but simply having company, conversation, and a friendly face around the home and can also provide some peace of mind for those who are the main carers.

We currently have availability on Tuesdays and Fridays to offer gentle support such as:
• Light housework
• A chat over a cup of tea
• Company throughout the day
• Small errands or general help around the home
