About Me:
I have lots of experience caring for vulnerable adults, both within my family and working for a care agency. While I was working professionally I was required to go into peoples homes and provide basic care, such as cooking meals, housework and shopping. Although I found this work very rewarding I am now going my own way to provide a more personal experience for my clients. I can still carry out all the duties that a normal carer can do, but I am much more focussed on improving mental health and quality of life, rather than physical health alone.
Whoever my client is, my aim is to provide a very personalised experience specifically for them. For example, some people may want support out on trips so they can confidently go outside and enjoy their hobbies again. Other people may prefer conversation, in which case I hope to find common interests with my client so we can both enjoy time together. This could be within their home or at a cafe for lunch.
I would be best suited for people who have an interest in animals as I live on a farm and there may be opportunities for my clients to meet dogs, chicks, emus and horses. Animals are amazing at lifting peoples spirits and they are great therapists. At my previous job in a care agency I would bring my Jack Russell (Tess) to visit my clients and they absolutely loved her.
In the spring I usually hatch out chicks who are tame and used to humans, I can bring them round to visit if my client wants to see them.
Visits to the farm can be arranged to see the other animals.
I also have an interest in wildlife, music, travelling, philosophical debates and much more. Whoever I’m caring for I will try my best to find common interests so both of us enjoy our time together.
People with conditions such as dementia, depression, addiction or learning disabilities can be very difficult to care for especially within families. While improving my clients quality of life, I can take some of the pressure off family members by carrying out daily tasks. This can include simple cooking, cleaning the house, washing clothes, shopping, walking dogs, etc. I hope to build up a relationship with my client’s family as well as my client so that communication is easy and to reduce stress for everyone involved.
If you or anyone you know is in need of a carer please get in touch and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
