Eastfield Medical Centre Update

Dear Patients

We know a lot of you are frustrated with the lack of progress with the reopening of Eastfield Medical Centre and honestly, we feel the same. It’s been a really difficult and frustrating process for us too. We know just how important local NHS services are for this community, and like you, we want to see things moving much quicker.

The biggest hold-up has been with loss adjusters / builders ensuring the building is safe for our staff and patients. It has taken far longer than anyone expected, and we understand how disappointing this is.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to get the centre open again. As soon as we have firm updates, we will, of course share them with you straight away.

👉 On a positive note, many of you will have noticed the St Catherine’s Hospice Pod in our car park today. We’ll be using the Pod every, Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout September to bring much-needed appointments back to our residents.

⚠️ Please note: the Pod is not a walk-in service, it is by appointment only.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient and supportive, it really does mean a lot while we continue to fight to get this sorted for Eastfield. 💙

We’d like to provide you with an important update and offer some reassurance.

➡️ We are NOT merging with Lawrence House.

➡️ We are NOT closing.

➡️ Eastfield Medical Centre remains open and operational.

You can continue to contact us in the usual way:

- 📞 By calling us on our normal phone lines

Across England, access to Tirzepatide (also called Mounjaro®) medication is being phased and prioritised to ensure patients with the greatest clinical need can receive it.

Cohort 1 – will start in the summer of 2025 in response to the requirement of NICE to make this drug available in “Primary Care Settings”. GPs should not directly prescribe tirzepatide for weight loss. The ICB is in the process of commissioning community/primary care weight loss prescribing services so that GPs have somewhere to refer eligible patients in line with the NICA TA1026 and NHS England Commissioning Guidance. As soon as these are available we will update you, we are looking to implement these as soon as possible.
The FAQs describe eligibility but for clarity the national roll out set by NHS England mean access this year is only for people with at least 4 of the 5 health conditions listed below plus a BMI of at least 40 (BMI to be adjusted for ethnicity*).
The following weight-related health conditions will be used to define those who are eligible first:

- type 2 diabetes mellitus
- high blood pressure
- heart disease
- obstructive sleep apnoea (when your breathing stops and starts -while you sleep)
- abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)
