In my last Dance The World course we learnt the Dandiya Rass dance from Gujarat.

This session was a lot of fun and nobody was harmed during filming πŸ€ͺ

Dussehra is a popular Indian festival celebrated by Hindus all over the world. This follows nine days of festivity called Navratri which means nine nights in Sanskrit. The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil.

The Dandiya Raas is performed during Navrati. The dance is performed by holding small polished sticks made of wood. As the dancers whirl to the intoxicating rhythm of the dance, they strike the dandiyas together, adding to the joyous atmosphere during nine evenings leading up to Dussehra on the tenth day.

Not strictly rock, more pop/punk, but nevertheless a banger of a request for tonight's dance class πŸ’₯

Nerdy song fact - it starts with a sample of a pseudo-German nonsense phrase "Gunter glieben glauchen globen" from Def Leppard's 1983 song "Rock of Ages", chanted as a replacement for the traditional "1, 2, 3, 4.

Tonight's routine is a commercial routine full of swagger 😎

As a performer, back in the day, I got to travel to some amazing places and I always scouted out local music and dancing to get involved with.

That grew into a lifelong curiosity, study and fascination with the different dances of this diverse world we live in. I began teaching my world dance classes in 2019 and have had a great time introducing people to dances they may otherwise never have thought to try.

There is such a huge mixture to explore! There are national dances, folk dances passed down through generations and styles of dancing which originated in or are popular in certain countries. There are dances for ceremony, celebration, socialising and performing. There are far too many to fit on one poster!

I offer my 'Dance The World' classes as a ten week course, in which we learn a varied assortment of dances and learn a little bit about the culture they come from.

Maybe this is a bit philosophical, but I like to think of learning world dance as a physical way of being open-minded in that we have to (literally) step out of what is known into new and different movements.

This isn't a dance class to become an expert in one style of dance - it is a pick and mix offering aimed to offer a space to be active and curious together learning about the different ways that people move their bodies to music 🌎

Todays beautiful boogie crew ❀️

In hen party classes, there will be a real mixture of people - some shy, some larger than life, some older, some younger, some who have danced all their lives and some who don’t think they can dance at all.

It’s my job to ensure everyone has a great time during the class πŸ₯³

I always make sure to create a welcoming, inclusive dance space and work with that particular group of people to create a routine that everyone can enjoy and join in with.

I explain at the start exactly what we will doing which helps the start of the class nerves where people are wondering what the heck they are going to be doing for 90 minutes!

Then we work through the routine they have chosen, step by step with lots of encouragement πŸ™Œ

My favourite part of the class is when the worried faces turn into smiles when they realise they are doing it and doing it well πŸ’ƒ

This is a great venue Swift Fitness York - a lovely mirrored dance studio and really friendly helpful staff πŸ™

I haven't been in Scarborough too long so I've deffo not sampled enough places yet! But so far, these are some faves:

Breakfast: I bet there are lots of nice places but my partner and I run a bed and breakfast on the Esplanade called The Waves so our breakfast time is accounted for!

Lunch:
Chamberlains kitchen Scarborough I usually get the salad box and sometimes one of their delicious hot meals. Generous portions and I like being able to dress it myself with their olive oil and balsamic. Super tasty!

Love Brew Cafe Everything on the menu looks scrum tbh but I haven't tried most of it because I'm in a full on love affair with their nourish bowls! I feel so happy and energised after eating one.

Coffee:
Bloom Coffee Shop & Bakery Their coffee is great and I also love when they do special edition blends eg. the Xmas spice blend that powered me through the Winter!

bay view coffee house Scarborough This was what I was looking forward to before I moved here, sitting by the sea with a cuppa. Really friendly staff and the location is great for people watching.

The Lookout On The Pier I love sitting out on their terrace drinking their yummy coffee and watching the fishermen go about their tasks while the gulls stalk and sit in wait for dropped fishy treats

Seven Coffee Shop & Eatery This is my go-to if I am in town, I really like their mocha

Evening:
Dante 's italian cuisine This is a fave. Everything tastes so good and its fun being able to see it being cooked at the back.

Eat Me Cafe & Social We went here recently and found it really hard to choose a dish as they all sounded delish! Looking forward to sampling some more of their menu soon

The Scarborough Arms - Pub & Dining Stumbled upon this place in need of a Sunday lunch and it didn't disappoint

Thai Orchid We love Thai food and have had some really tasty meals here

Sweet treats:
Dahlia Bakery This is (dangerously) just round the corner from us :D They make some seriously yum cakes!!

Harbour Bar I am partial to a lemon top!

Fish and Chips:
So far I like North Bay Fisheries and Winking Willy's

(just out of shot is a Minnie teddy won in the arcade for me - livin' the seaside life well! :D)

Spring Equinox and my fave flowers are everywhere 🌼 I love their sunshine faces and whenever I see them they remind me to seek what brings me joy.

This time of year is great for setting an intention. It’s a time of rebirth and growth.

What small change could you make for your health that built up over time would make a big difference? Or what could you get rid of that no longer serves you or brings you joy?

I’m choosing to focus on meditation. I know when I commit to my daily practice I reap reward in all areas of my life and I’ve been a bit lax with it recently 😬

And I’m going to clear out some clothes to give to the charity shop πŸ‘

What are your equinox intentions πŸ€”
