Working together with our colleagues at J W Myers Memorials Scarborough.

Having worked really close with Julie and Marie over the past number of years we had no hesitation in turning to them to create the memorials for Graham & Christine’s graves in Woodlands Cemetery.

Both Graham & Christine liked to see uniformed and consistent headstones when visiting the many churchyards and cemeteries as they did for so many years. So we decided to act upon their views and have their two stones to match the previously fitted one for their Mother, nine years ago.

A big thank you to Julie and Marie for looking after us, just as you have done for the so many families we have shared with you 🎩

It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.

Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.

The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.

HUSBAND OF PC PAYS TRIBUTE TO WIFE

The husband of North Yorkshire Police officer Kelly Smith has paid tribute to his ‘utterly fantastic’ wife ahead of her funeral.

Retired Sergeant Colin Phipps said Kelly loved her family and her job, and would ‘do anything for anyone’.

His words come after Kelly sadly died on Friday 15 August, following a long illness, leaving behind Colin and their eight-year-old son Jacob.

“She was a fantastic mother to our son, Jacob, a stepmother to my two daughters and grandmother to their children,” said Colin, who retired after 30 years’ service.

“Nothing was too much for her – she’d do anything for anyone.

“And she absolutely adored her job.”

In accordance with her wishes, a humanist service will be held at 1pm on 2 September (tomorrow) to celebrate Kelly’s life.

Yesterday, George was invited to contribute to a BBC investigation uncovering shocking practices by a self-proclaimed funeral director in Leeds.

The findings were deeply concerning and serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for proper regulation within the funeral profession.

Speaking on behalf of SAIF (The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors), George highlighted why regulation is absolutely vital in such a sensitive and highly scrutinised industry.

This only strengthens the importance of ensuring that, while formal regulation is still lacking, bereaved families choose funeral directors affiliated with a recognised trade organisation. Such affiliation demonstrates a commitment to a code of practice, regular inspections, and ongoing training and development — all of which are essential in protecting dignity and trust at the most difficult of times.
