Smiling face with smiling eyes, smiling face with heart eyes. Do you recognise those descriptions? They’re emojis!

It’s and we wanted to highlight how you can make sure your emoji use is accessible!

You should:
- Limit your emojis, screen readers and text-to-speech software reads out emojis which can be really time consuming.

- The software being used will read out the name of the emoji – like the above – so don’t use them to replace words as they may change the context of what you’re trying to say.

A big, heartfelt THANK YOU to the wonderful Wylde Green Inner Wheel Club, who’ve raised an incredible £1,200 for Sense this past year! 💜

Led by President Chrissy, the club have fundraised with heart and dedication to support Sense - and it truly shows. 🌟

We were over the moon to welcome them to TouchBase Pears to celebrate their amazing achievement. It was such a joy to say thank you face to face and share the difference their support is making in the lives of the people we support.

You’re all stars - thank you for making a difference!

Are you part of a Rotary Club or Inner Wheel Club looking for a Charity of the Year? We’d love to hear from you! Email community.team@sense.org.uk to get involved.

Earlier this year, Will completed his first ever marathon, at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. He completed it in just 4 hours and 10 minutes 🏃‍♂️

Absolutely smashed it!

Will chose to run for Sense as he wanted to give back to a charity close to home:

“At a young age, Sense did a lot for my brother – taking him on holidays and giving him experiences that you and me wouldn’t think twice about. It’s a charity I can’t thank enough and I want to give back.”

We are so proud and grateful to have Will on 💜 His determination and generosity are helping us create more joyful, accessible experiences for people with complex disabilities.

Love means nothing in tennis, but Safia has nothing but love for Sensory Tennis!

Wimbledon 2025 kicked off last week, bringing players and fans together to celebrate the event from all over the world.

Safia was super excited to get stuck in and has been 'rallying-up' the excitement for our new Sensory Tennis sessions at Clifton Park in Rotherham. She always gives everything a go and brings first class energy, no matter what activity she takes part in.

On Sunday, we had the pleasure of attending the fantastic Parallel, a festival of inclusivity, held in Windsor!

The Sense Active and Community Teams were thrilled to set up our very own Decathlon and Sense sporting arena, offering a variety of sensory sports from rounders to snooker. It was an incredible day filled with fun and laughter, and a bit of rain!

We were delighted to welcome many of our service users and the Sense community, along with some wonderful new faces. A real highlight for us was cheering on Sense at the SuperSensory 1KM, which featured huge bubbles, hand bells, and other sensory experiences for participants.

It was a day that we believe every day should look like. Full accessibility for everyone. Events like Parallel show that the barriers many disabled people face can be overcome, creating a world where disabled people are connected and included, no matter what.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special. We can't for next year!

James Watson-O'Neill, Chief Executive of the national disability charity Sense, said:

"Yesterday's vote in Parliament is deeply distressing. By advancing the bill, MPs have voted for measures the government's data say will push 150,000 disabled people into poverty. This is not the right way to reform our welfare system and is causing significant anxiety.

"We’re grateful to all those who spoke out against the bill. Their efforts helped secure important government concessions, which mean some disabled people will retain the support they rely on. However, this will create a deeply unfair two-tier system — protecting some whilst new claimants face serious financial hardship.

We urge the government to immediately reconsider their proposal to remove the health element of Universal Credit from young people until they turn 22. We also want to work constructively with them to expand the eligibility criteria for additional support for those who will never be able to work, to ensure no one is left behind."
