🌸 What happens to flowers after a funeral?

This is a question many families ask, and the answer is always based on personal wishes:

🌹Some families choose to take them home
🌺 Leave them at the grave or crematorium
🌻 In some cases, flowers can be donated where possible

If flowers are left, site staff will remove them respectfully after a few days.

🎗️ Ashby Funeral Care is Supporting World Su***de Prevention Day - 10th September

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, a powerful reminder of how important it is to look out for one another.

Grief, loss, and the pressures of daily life can feel overwhelming. It is vital to recognise these struggles and create spaces where people feel able to talk openly. Silence can be dangerous, and sadly too many lives are lost as a result.

At Ashby Funeral Care we believe that small acts of kindness can save lives. Whether it is a quiet word with a neighbour, a coffee with a friend, or simply asking “how are you really doing?”, these moments matter. Together, we can reduce stigma and encourage open support.

💜 A Heartbreaking Reminder

We were deeply touched by a recent national news story about Norman White, 61, who tragically collapsed and died during his son’s funeral in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. This happened as his son’s coffin was being carried into St Bede’s Chapel.

His family described it as a “double tragedy” and believe he died of a broken heart. Norman had no known heart conditions but was under huge emotional strain from losing his son.

Stories like this are profoundly sad and remind us of the immense toll grief can take, not only on our emotions but on our physical health too.

At Ashby Funeral Care, we would gently encourage family and friends to watch out for one another during such difficult times. Grief is incredibly heavy, and sometimes the signs of stress, exhaustion or underlying health issues may not be obvious.

Please take care of yourself and those around you. And always remember that support is available.

✨ We are honoured to share that Ashby Funeral Care has been shortlisted as a finalist in the very first North Lincolnshire Great Big Small Awards.

To be recognised alongside so many fantastic local businesses, especially as we have only just celebrated our first anniversary, is something we are truly humbled by. It shows that our commitment to serving families with care, compassion and professionalism is already being felt in the community.

Of course we would love to win, but for us the real honour is being recognised for simply doing what we set out to do. Providing a quiet, professional and personal service to local families when they need it most.

🪦 A Lasting Tribute, Done Right

A memorial should provide comfort, not stress.

Recently, we were contacted by a family who had been told their loved one’s memorial could not be altered. The original stone had not been fixed to regulations, meaning the inscription they wanted could not be added. They were advised a replacement was the only option.

Instead, our masons rebuilt the memorial properly and engraved the inscription with care. The flower carving they were told was impossible shone beautifully in the sunlight once completed.

This is the difference when you choose a BRAMM and NAMM regulated mason. Families deserve memorials built to last and crafted with skill.

In today’s world, especially on social media, it can sometimes feel like the negative outweighs the positive. That is a shame, because there is so much good to share.

We would like to use this space for something positive and take a moment to sincerely thank Elite Horse Drawn Carriage Hire - Even when fully booked, they pulled out all the stops. This is exactly how it should be in the funeral profession, where working together in a family’s time of need is so important.

Thank you for being there for us and the family, and for providing such a beautiful horse and carriage. It was a fitting and personal tribute for a much-loved gentleman who cherished horses throughout his life.
