Resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will shortly be taking strike action for five days, starting from 7am on Friday 25 July running until Wednesday 30 July at 6.59am.

Due to attend the hospital? Please continue as planned if you haven’t heard from us. If we need to cancel and reschedule your appointment, we'll be in touch ASAP to let you know, and if this is the case, please accept our apologies in advance.

Emergency care departments will remain open for the most serious illness and injuries, but long waits are expected. Please use alternatives such as local urgent treatment centres, NHS 111 or your local GP or pharmacy service wherever you can.

🀰 Did you know? The whooping cough vaccine has been given in pregnancy in the UK since 2012. A study of 20,000 vaccinated women found no risks to pregnancy or unborn babies. Vaccination is the best way to protect your child! πŸ’ͺ
😷 Whooping cough is a serious infection causing long bouts of coughing and choking. It can lead to pneumonia and brain damage, especially in young babies. Most babies with whooping cough need hospital treatment. Let's keep them safe! πŸ₯
Public health midwife Joanna Melia says whooping cough is on the rise. Vaccination rates in Humber and North Yorkshire were the best in England last year, but we need to keep it up! πŸ’‰
🀱 Joanna says: "Vaccination in pregnancy passes immunity to your baby and protects them until they receive their own vaccination at eight weeks old." Lower your own risk of infection and protect your child! πŸ’‰ 11 12
πŸ“… When to get vaccinated: Around the time of your mid-pregnancy scan (usually at 20 weeks), but you can have it from 16 weeks. Get vaccinated before 32 weeks for the best protection. Ask your midwife about booking an appointment! πŸ—“οΈ

Have you been told that you need to have a blood test by your GP?
If so, did you know that you can now book the appointment yourself - choosing from a range of dates and times to find the one that works best for you?
Our Community Diagnostic Centres in the heart of Grimsby and Scunthorpe town centres offer appointments from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, to help you work around your existing commitments.
Book an appointment at Grimsby CDC: https://buff.ly/DfvJMWx or call 03033 306668
Book an appointment at Scunthorpe CDC: https://buff.ly/YZEdfAH or call 03033 306667
For those of you in Goole, there may not be a CDC in the town but you can still book blood test appointments at the hospital online here: https://buff.ly/wNUD5JM
Please ensure you bring along your blood test form, unless you have been advised you don't need to.

Suffering with diarrhoea and vomiting?

These symptoms can usually be managed at home - please don't come to A&E or visit our hospitals if you're affected as it risks spreading infection to others.

Antibiotics do not work for problems such as colds and flu, which are caused by viruses.

Using antibiotics when they're not needed encourages harmful bacteria that live inside you to become resistant – also known as antimicrobial resistance. That means that antibiotics may not work when you really need them. Three steps we can all take to help prevent Antimicrobial Resistance:

β€’ Protect yourself from infections, e.g. by getting vaccinated when eligible
β€’ Only take antibiotics and other antimicrobials when prescribed
β€’ Never share or use leftover antibiotics.
