✨ New way to manage your hospital appointments! ✨

We’re rolling out a patient-led booking service through our upgraded Patient Portal – giving you the power to choose the time, date, and even location of your appointment, all from your mobile or tablet.

📲 If eligible, you’ll receive a text from 07860 039092 with a secure link to the portal. From there, simply pick the hospital most convenient for you, select from available slots, and confirm instantly. No more waiting on the phone or receiving letters for appointments you can’t attend!

This update also means:

🔵Quick notifications about changes, like clinic locations or earlier slots

🔵Easy yes/no responses to confirm attendance, helping reduce waiting times

🔵A smoother, more flexible experience that fits into your daily life

Andy Haywood, Group Chief Strategy, Partnerships and Digital Officer, says:

“Our new patient-led booking service will transform the way patients interact with their care.”

Currently piloting at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with rollout planned for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust soon.

Our Community Matrons are providing a series of events this week to mark World COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Day, which is held annually on November 19.

They want to raise awareness of COPD and encourage early diagnosis, as many people mistake breathlessness for normal ageing. The theme for 2025 is ‘Short of Breath, Think COPD.

If you're out and about in Scunthorpe this week look out for the team in The Pods on Wednesday between 10 am and 2.30pm and at St John's Market on Thursday from 10am to 2.30pm.

Symptoms of COPD include:
•Chronic cough, with or without mucus
•Shortness of breath, especially with physical activity
•Wheezing
•Chest tightness
•Frequent respiratory infections
•Fatigue

This week, we're supporting International Fraud Awareness Week (IFAW).

This week-long campaign encourages private and public sector leaders and employees to proactively take steps to minimise the impact of fraud by promoting fraud awareness. It's the perfect time for us all to discuss amongst our peers, coworkers, executives and stakeholders in the Trust, and our communities, about how important fraud prevention is to society as a whole.

As an official supporter of IFAW, we're demonstrating our commitment to preventing and detecting fraud, and when it’s over, it does not stop there. Fraud is committed year-round and we must all be vigilant. Our best deterrence is by making all staff aware of NHS fraud and its impact on patient care, and to remind anyone thinking of committing fraud against the NHS it will not be tolerated and controls are in place to detect it wherever possible.

We're on day two of the resident doctor strike we’re continuing to focus our efforts on maintaining our urgent and emergency services - meaning some routine and less urgent appointments have been cancelled. We apologise if this has impacted you or your family, we know how frustrating this can be but it is necessary to allow us to focus on the most seriously ill/injured of our patients.

Our emergency departments remain open this weekend, but please bear with us if you need to seek help as it may take longer than usual
