When home shopping driver Alan from our Thornaby store smelt gas at the home of one of our older customers he immediately got in touch with the National Gas Emergency Service whose engineers found a leak in the kitchen.
After they quickly repaired the leak the customer called the store to thank Alan and said: "I am totally overwhelmed at how his actions will have such a positive impact on my health and wellbeing."
Alan said: “When I called at the house there was really strong smell of gas. I used to work at a chemical plant so I knew it was gas. I warned the lady about lighting anything, especially as she had ci******es in her shopping delivery. I called the emergency number and they were at the property within an hour.”
Asda Thornaby's operations manager James, who nominated Alan for an Asda service superstar award, said: "Alan has potentially prevented a serious and dangerous incident with his vigilance and care. He could well have driven off without a second thought, but chose to take care of her well above his expected duties."
