14th June 2025 - Pop up yoga morning with Emma Spencer-Goodier, Nettlestone.

Enjoy a full extended morning of practice; meditation, pranayama and asana around the theme of 'hope'. When we can move away from any tendencies of ambition or even aspiration in our work, we can more easily exist in a spacious curious space of ease. Can we still exist in this spacious awareness as we approach the challenges and obstacles in our practice, body, mind and life? How might we support our growth without ambitious tendencies?

This workshop is not suitable for beginners, but if you are curious to begin your yoga journey, please do get in touch and I can signpost you to some really wonderful teachers. The morning will suit experienced practitioners and teachers looking for a supportive and informative safe space to drop deeply into their own practice.

I have only three more spaces on this workshop, so please get in touch to book.

With love xx

The Island's Ashtanga community is held lovingly by a collective of wonderful supportive teachers. They gather weekly and monthly to help each other sustain their practice and to mentor each other in a non-hierarchial environment. They also sustain a love of cake which is also a bonus!

I was really delighted to be asked to facilitate Gabriele's monthly yoga workshop this past weekend. What a lovely reconnect to everyone, the teaching of this approach, and some sweet time on the mats together.

I'm reminded by the poet Annie Dillard today gratefully, that 'how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives,' and if my days are spent in good company, doing the stuff that reminds me of the miracle of existence, well, then life feels wholesome.

If you'd like to join the community to have access to a regular ashtanga practice there are number of options...

Have you heard the Yoga Sutra mentioned in classes, but are not sure what it is? Perhaps you have studied it a little and would like to know more about it? This relaxed workshop will give you a full introduction to this fascinating yoga text, considered by many to be a foundational philosophical underpinning for our modern practice (as ever, the truth is more complicated, but also more interesting). We will learn who wrote it, where the ideas within it come from, how to read it and how its reception and interpretation has changed since it was written, over 1500 years ago. We will also read multiple translations together, explore its particular approach to liberation practices and how it might relate to yoga today. No prior knowledge required.

Martha Henson is leading the workshop. She runs IntoYoga, based on the island, an organisation sharing yoga scholarship and exploring its relation to practice. She has a master’s degree (distinction) in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from SOAS University, and was for two years the project coordinator for the SOAS Centre of Yoga Studies, chaired by Dr James Mallinson. She is continuing to explore new areas of research within yoga and meditation studies, and loves collaborating with others to bring this knowledge to life in practice.

The workshop will run from 6:15 - 8:15pm on the 14th November.

To book, please DM me with your email address and I will forward your enquiry on to Martha.
