We’re proud to celebrate our colleague Jenson Burrows, who was recently shortlisted as a finalist in the Apprentice of the Year Awards at Newcastle University.

Selected from more than 160 nominations, Jenson was recognised as one of just 20 finalists, representing organisations ranging from small businesses to major global companies.

While he didn’t take home the award this time, being shortlisted is an incredible achievement, particularly in his first year as an apprentice.

Jenson was recognised alongside apprentices with extensive industry experience, including higher-degree apprentices, making this recognition even more impressive.

At Kromek, we’re passionate about developing future talent, and it’s fantastic to see Jenson’s hard work, dedication and contribution recognised externally. We’re excited to see what he achieves next.

As the world marks the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, our CEO Dr Arnab Basu joined LBC to discuss the lasting impact of the event and the ongoing importance of radiation detection.

In the interview, Arnab highlighted the continued presence of radiation within the exclusion zone surrounding Chernobyl, where contamination remains embedded in the soil, vegetation and infrastructure. The area still requires careful monitoring and controlled access, with long-term environmental and safety considerations continuing to shape how the site is managed today.

Four decades on, the lessons from Chernobyl continue to influence how governments and organisations approach nuclear safety. Advances in detection technology now enable faster identification of threats, improved situational awareness, and more effective response strategies, helping to mitigate risk in an increasingly complex global landscape.
