A little update on one of our AW Fitness family James Bell.
James has been maintaining his weight for about a year, holding steady around the 14 stone mark after already losing more than 3 stone. A little over 2 months ago he decided he was ready to cut a bit more body fat.
He’s put an awesome effort in with his nutrition and has dropped to 12st 10lbs. 👌🏻
James has done this through tracking calories to make sure he was in a calorie deficit. He’s focussed on making protein the main focus of his meals with moderate carbohydrates and fats. This is to help maintain muscles mass and help his body cope with the rigours of his training.
Calorie tracking isn’t for everyone as it can be a real pain in the backside weighing, measuring and recording recipes in detail. However, done well, it gives very accurate data which helps when trying to lose, maintain or increase weight. Over time, it becomes less time consuming as you quickly start to learn portion sizes and their associated calories so gradually you can start to cut back on being so diligent with the scales as you can judge portions by sight.
A few tips from James:
1. The feeling of hunger was a problem to start with. It often is when we first go into a deficit. However, after 2-3 weeks of being in a deficit he felt his body adapted and he no longer felt hungry. So, yes it’s hard initially and will power is needed but it got easier quite quickly!
2. He padded his meals out with vegetables which made him feel nice and full. This increased fibre intake and also had the benefit of the extra vitamins and minerals (micro nutrients) that come with eating vegetables.
3. He reduced his alcohol intake, keeping it to a minimum if he was to have a drink. 🍺
James has been working with me for several years now and trains like a warrior! Never complains, shows up consistently both here and in his solo training. When we met he was over 17 stone. His blood pressure was close to stage 1 hypertension. He’s now lost over 62lbs (28.36kg)! We took his blood pressure readings recently and it was perfect - 110/70!
It just shows what taking control of your nutrition, increasing your daily activity and investing in your health and well being can achieve!
Great work! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
