I just want to let everyone know that I am incredibly busy at the moment. I am unfortunately struggling to move and accommodate appointments which people can no longer attend.

Please bear in mind I am working extremely long hours to accommodate everyone as best I can. Unfortunately I am only one person and doing the best I can.

Please can you not message a day/night before and expect to be moved to a different day the same week as unfortunately it isn't possible due to been fully booked until April. If I am able to accommodate I will but it is very hard to do this.

If you need to change your appointment please can you do it as soon as you can to make it easy for yourself and me.

🚨 High-Risk Foot Conditions – Why You Need a Podiatrist! 🚨

Did you know that certain foot conditions require specialist medical care? If you or a loved one have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system, routine foot care can become dangerous if you don't seek specialist help.

At West Lakes Podiatry, I specialise in high-risk foot care to help prevent serious complications like infections, ulcers, and even amputations. If you have any of these conditions—seek expert care!

🔍 Why does this matter? Check out the risks:

Condition 🦶 Risk ⚠️ Potential Consequences ❌

Diabetes 🩸 Poor circulation, neuropathy Non-healing ulcers → Infection → Amputation

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) 🏥 Reduced blood flow Ischemia → Gangrene → Amputation

Immunosuppression 🦠 Reduced ability to fight infection Minor cut → Sepsis or bone infection (osteomyelitis)

Neuropathy 🧠 Loss of sensation Undetected wounds → Severe infections

Foot Ulcers 👣 High risk of infection Mismanagement → Amputation or systemic infection

Your feet deserve the best care—don’t settle for less! 👣💙 🚨

❄️Cold weather is coming, are your feet ready?❄️

It’s super important to keep your feet healthy and happy, especially during the harsh winter months. Cracked heels, also known as fissures, are a common foot problem and they can be more than just an aesthetic issue. They can cause discomfort and pain and may even bleed or become infected. Let’s explore how cracked heels occur, and look at practical ways to prevent and treat them.

👣How and Why Do Cracked Heels Occur?👣
Our skin is the largest organ in the body. When our skin becomes dry it loses elasticity and can crack as the skin yields to the pressure we put on our feet while walking. Risk factors for cracked heels include:

👣Winter brings colder weather and dryer air which can dry out your skin and lead to cracked heels.
👣Wearing open shoes and open heels
👣Standing for long periods: especially on hard surfaces, increases pressure on the heels, contributing to cracking.
👣Skin Conditions: e.g. eczema and psoriasis can make you more prone to cracked heels.
👣Having athletes foot
👣Carrying excessive weight
👣Heavy heel callus/hard skin

Are you struggling with cracked heels? See your podiatrist today to book an appointment please call or message today.

Yesterday I was at the South Yorkshire Foot Conference with Sheran, we had a lovely time.

Learnt a lot and new ways of looking at the foot and considering all health aspects and more in depth knowledge of lipoedema. Very interesting day! We are always learning in our profession 👣

Who are the HCPC?

The Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) is a regulator, and were set up to protect the public. To do this, they keep a Register of health and care professionals who meet their standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health.

They currently regulate the following professions: arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists / podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, hearing aid dispensers, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists / orthotists, radiographers, social workers in England and speech and language therapists.

All of these professions have at least one professional title that is protected by law, including those shown above. This means, for example, that anyone using the titles 'physiotherapist' or 'podiatrist' must be registered with the HCPC.

It is a criminal offence for someone to claim that they are registered with the HCPC when they are not, or to use a protected title that they are not entitled to use. They will prosecute people who commit these crimes.

You need to be registered with the HCPC to call yourself a Chiropodist or Podiatrist. For details on how to register. You will also need to renew your registration every two years. Please see here for further details.

Is your practitioner registered?

👣Diabetes and the foot👣

You should check your feet every day. Diabetes can reduce the blood supply to your feet and cause a loss of feeling.

This means foot injuries do not heal well and you may not notice straight away if your foot is sore or injured. These problems can lead to ulcers and infections. If they're not treated early, you could need an amputation.

Simple things are important, like:

👣keeping feet clean and dry to avoid infection
👣trying not to go barefoot outside to avoid nicks and cuts
👣wearing shoes that fit well

Do you need to book your feet in for a check up? Call or message today!
