Junior doctors in England are set to strike from Friday 25th July 2025 to Wednesday 30th July 2025. The strike action has been called by the BMA due to a dispute with the Government over fair rates of pay.

The strike will commence at 7am on Friday 25th July 2025 and conclude at 7am on Wednesday 30th July 2025. This action follows a renewed mandate for industrial action announced by the British Medical Association (BMA).

The strike is expected to have a significant impact on the NHS, potentially leading to thousands of cancelled appointments and operations.

☀️ We all enjoy the warm weather and want to get outdoors, however with the very hot weather across the country this week, make sure you keep hydrated.

Dehydration means your body loses more fluids than you take in, children and older adults are more at risk.

If it's not treated, it can become a serious problem.

Alcohol Awareness Week is a week of awareness-raising, campaigning for change, and more. Alcohol Awareness Week takes place from 7 to 13 July 2025.

Alcohol misuse is a widespread issue that can lead to serious health problems, including liver disease, cancer, depression, and addiction. It can also contribute to accidents, relationship breakdowns, and financial difficulties. Yet because drinking is socially accepted and often normalised, problems may go unnoticed or unaddressed. Alcohol Awareness Week helps to challenge stigma, offer support, and empower people to make informed choices about alcohol.

▪️One in four adults in the UK regularly exceeds recommended drinking limits.
▪️Cutting down or quitting alcohol can improve sleep, mental health, immune function, and long-term disease risk.

It’s important to be aware of how alcohol affects your mental health, particularly if you have a mental health problem. ❓

People drink for many reasons – from celebrating to commiserating, relaxing, to feeling more confident.

And while the short-term effects might deliver – this quickly wears off.

The chemical changes in your brain caused by alcohol can soon lead to negative feelings, including depression, anxiety and anger. 🧠

And for those already struggling with depression, it can make those symptoms worse.

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

We're expecting high temperatures for the next few days.

❗️ Tips for coping in the hot weather ❗️

🌞If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

🌞Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

🌞Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week will take place from June 16th to June 24th, 2025, focusing on the importance of regular cervical screening for women's health.

Cervical cancer is the most common form of cancer in women under 35 with two women in the UK per day dying from the disease. Regular cervical screening appointments can prevent up to 75% of instances of cervical cancer, saving 5000 lives per year.

Cervical Screening (which used to be called a smear test) is a free NHS health test that is offered to women and all people with a cervix between the ages of 25 to 64. It helps prevent cervical cancer by checking for human papillomavirus (HPV) which can be passed on through sexual contact.

It’s Men’s Health Week — and it’s more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a call to action. A chance to change the conversation.
Too many men are still suffering in silence. Behind the "I’m good, mate" is often someone doing it tough. Whether it’s stress, burnout, grief, or just the weight of life — we need to make it okay to speak up, check in, and reach out.

We invite you to participate in a special fundraising event – Selby Stands Together Against Cancer Day 24th June 2025 - to support vital cancer services right here in the Selby.

Cancer affects so many lives, and almost every one of us knows someone who has been touched by this disease. This fundraiser is a chance for our community to unite, show our strength, and provide much-needed resources to those facing this challenge.

🌟🌟 SELBY STANDS TOGETHER AGAINST CANCER🌟🌟

We are reaching out to you today with an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in our local community.

Selby Town Primary Care Network (PCN) supporting the 4 GP surgeries in Selby, Active North Yorkshire and Up for Yorkshire have teamed up to offer patients living with cancer a range of Cancer Support Services, with initial support from the Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance:
🌟Our weekly Cancer Support Café at the Town Hall provides peer, social and clinical support to people living with cancer and their support networks.
🌟Prehabilitation (before treatment) and rehabilitation (after treatment) programmes – Supporting patients with a bespoke programme of exercise, nutrition, wellbeing and financial support, either before they embark on their cancer treatment or after they have completed their cancer treatment.

Our Selby Stands Together Against Cancer Day on 24th June aims to bring the community together to raise funds for our Cancer Support Services to make sure we can continue to offer these services to our community.

🌟How can we get involved?
You may want to hold a dress-down day, or a coffee/cake morning, or just ask for donations from your teams. Alternatively, we are holding a coffee morning at The Summit on the 24th June 10-2, donations for a cake sale and tombola would also be appreciated.
Every penny raised will go towards funding the Cancer Support Services to help us run crucial programmes, provide comfort to patients and families, and strengthen the local support network.

We firmly believe that by working together, we can make a tangible difference to the lives of those affected by cancer in our community.

Thank you for considering this important initiative. We sincerely hope to partner with you in making the Selby Stands Together Against Cancer fundraiser a resounding success.
