🧊 Myth Buster Monday: Can the flu jab give you the flu? 🤧❌

❌ Myth: “I had the flu jab and then I got the flu — the vaccine gave it to me.”

✅ Fact: The flu jab cannot give you the flu.
The injectable flu vaccine doesn’t contain any live virus, so it can’t cause the illness.

You might feel a bit achy or have a mild temperature afterwards, but that’s just your immune system learning to protect you. It’s a normal, short-lived response, not the flu.

💉 Why it matters:
Getting the flu jab reduces your risk of serious illness, protects vulnerable people, and helps keep our community healthy this winter.

If you’re eligible, don’t delay — get your flu jab booked today!

🎄 Christmas Prescription Reminder 🎄

With the festive season approaching, we’d like to remind our patients that we do not routinely issue double prescriptions for Christmas.

If your prescription is due while the practice is closed, you may request it up to one week early.
For those who require two months of medication due to holiday travel, please ensure this is clearly stated when you make your request so it can be recorded in your notes.

This applies to both dispensing and non-dispensing patients.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this busy period.✨

⏰ Need to cancel your appointment?
Please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to another patient. Thank you for helping us reduce waiting times.

We're holding another walk in cervical screening clinic in📍 Selby.

Come along on 🗓️ Thursday 20th November 2025 between ⏰ 4pm and 7pm. We'll be at Selby War Memorial Hospital - it's a great location, with ample free onsite parking, and you can watch our walk through video on our website if you're not sure where to go.

Cervical screening saves at least 2000 lives each year, but we understand why it might be difficult to tick it off your to do list. With busy lives, caring responsibilities, worries and anxieties, it's easy to put it to the back of your mind. Don't leave it there over the festive period!

All you need to come to our clinic is:
✅ To have received your reminder - this is now via the NHS app
✅ Your NHS number

What you don't need:
❌ A wax
❌ Matching socks
❌ Loads of enthusiasm - we're not offended, we know you'd probably rather be doing something else!

If you're still hesitating, here's what some recent attendees have said about our service:

❤️ All of the team are so friendly and welcoming and really make you feel at ease
❤️ Excellent service with fab staff
❤️ Super reassuring and calmed my nerves. Super quick and informative.
❤️ I had my first smear test today and I had the most positive experience. The nurse I had was just wonderful and very reassuring, she made sure I was talked through everything and made me feel so comfortable. I can’t thank them enough for making my first experience so positive

We also offer cervical screening as a booked appointment, if that suits you better. Give our team a call on 01904 721111 and we'll get something arranged.

📣 It’s Movember! Supporting Men’s Health This Month

This November, is Movember, the campaign raising awareness for men’s health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and su***de prevention.

👨‍⚕️ 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
👨‍⚕️ Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men.
🧠 Men are less likely to seek help for mental health struggles.

This month, let’s encourage the men in our lives to:

✔️ Book routine check-ups

✔️ Know the signs of prostate & testicular cancer

✔️ Talk openly about mental health

✔️ Reach out if something doesn’t feel right

If you’d like to speak to a clinician, our team is here to help. 💙

Grow a mo. Start a conversation. Save a life.

Today, we pause to remember and honour all those who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces, past and present. Their courage and dedication have helped shape the freedoms we enjoy today.

At Beech Tree Surgery, we are proud to support our veterans and their families as part of the Armed Forces community.

💂‍♂️ Veteran ID Cards
If you’ve served in the UK Armed Forces, you may be eligible for a Veteran ID Card. This card helps you easily verify your veteran status and access support, healthcare, and services designed for you.

You can apply online via the official GOV.UK website:

If you need help or have questions about registering as a veteran with our practice, please speak to one of our reception team — we’re here to support you.
