🤍We have been raising money for all week with our IGTV lives & have been really inspired by posts as well as .fit raising money for & raising awareness about reasons why many women are not hitting their recommended activity quota

🤍It therefore feels like a great opportunity to talk about exercising during menstruation & hopefully help to show that periods don’t have to be a barrier to exercise

🤍Today I want to focus on INFLAMMATION during the menstrual cycle & how exercise can impact on associated symptoms. Next up we’ll discuss hormonal fluctuations & their potential effect on exercise (stay tuned)

🤍Common menstrual symptoms of back pain, headaches, sleep disturbances, mood disturbances & stomach cramps have been correlated to the increase in inflammation in the pre menstrual & menstrual phases of the cycle
🤍Tracking your cycle & understanding your symptoms can be really useful way to improve your understanding of how YOU feel throughout YOUR cycle (everyone is unique in their responses). I recommend app as it provides a holistic, evidence based approach to tracking with amazing tips & insights to help each individual user

🤍If you experience symptoms associated with the inflammatory process during the menstrual cycle then you can help modify & DECREASE these symptoms by optimising nutrition, sleep, stress levels & EXERCISE
🤍Moderate to light aerobic exercise, Pilates & yoga have been shown to help with some of the common period symptoms felt by some ( did some amazing research on this in 2019)
🤍In addition to this, there is also the added brilliant benefit of the endorphins released during & after exercise
