On behalf of Selsey Medical practice:

Selsey Medical Practice would like to make our patients aware that blood tests are an additional service which is commissioned by the Integrated Care Board from the practice (this also applies to many of our other services our nursing team provide).

Currently this service is commissioned in a way that is it is not cost effective to provide and therefore we have taken the decision as a practice to reduce the amount of blood tests we do to minimise our losses. We do want to be able to continue to provide this service for our most vulnerable patients.

We have also reduced the length of time that blood tests can be booked in advance because around 90% of the missed blood test appointments were booked more than 2 weeks ahead, these appointments could have been available to other patients. Making this change has lead to a significant improvement to the missed blood test appointments.

Dear Patients

Selsey Medical Practice went live with a new appointment system last week, we are encouraging patients to use our online form to contact us which can be found on our website or can be accessed via your NHS App. If you are unable to complete an online form please call us and a member of our team will complete this with you while you are on the telephone. These forms are then triaged by our clinical team and we will respond to you within 48hrs (or sooner depending on your request). We hope that those of you have already used this new system have had a good experience.

Due to the confidential nature of the information we require for triage we no longer allow appointment requests over the front desk, however if you have exceptional circumstances which mean you are unable to complete an online form or you cannot use a telephone please speak to the patient services team member on reception and we will support you.

Sometimes there are long queues at the front desk, instead of waiting in a queue – consider calling us or submitting an online request if you are able. If you do choose to wait, please be patient and considerate to our staff and others.
