Yawning isn’t just about being tired.
It’s your body’s way of saying,
“I feel safe enough to rest.”

When your nervous system is on alert, even that tiny reflex can get blocked.
Your body keeps scanning for danger, even when nothing’s wrong.
You might feel wired, restless, or tense but not know why.

It’s not your fault.
Your body just hasn’t had enough proof that it’s safe yet.

That’s why sighing, yawning, and deep breaths matter.
They’re signs your system is finding safety again.

You don’t have to force it.
Just breathe slower.
Unclench your jaw.
Let your shoulders drop.

Safety isn’t a thought it’s a feeling your body relearns with time.

You’re not broken.
You’re just recalibrating.

When you’re stressed for too long, your body starts speaking in symptoms.

When your nervous system gets stuck in fight-or-flight, it becomes hard — sometimes impossible — to move back into the calm middle zone.
And when you rarely enter that zone, your body can’t do the things it normally does with ease

That’s when digestion slows down.
Your gut reacts.
Your skin flares.
Your body shakes or trembles.
Your muscles ache for no clear reason.
All of this happens because you’re not entering “rest and digest” — the state where the body repairs, heals, and processes food.
If you stay in survival mode too long, your system can’t switch into healing mode.

Your symptoms aren’t random they’re your body asking for safety.

This move helps you release one of the most important stress muscles in your body — the psoas.

When you’re stressed, your psoas gets tight.
It’s the deep muscle that connects your spine to your legs.
It tenses to protect you like your body is getting ready to run or hide.
That’s why after long days of stress, your lower back or hips can ache.

Here’s how to release it:
Lie on your back.
Lift your hips and slide a yoga block under your sacrum, that’s the flat bone just above your tailbone.
Keep one knee bent and stretch the other leg long on the floor.
Let your body sink into the support and breathe slowly.

You might feel your belly soften and your breath drop lower.
That’s your body learning it’s safe again.

If you don’t have a yoga block, you can use a firm pillow or a folded blanket under your hips.
It works just as well.

Movement can be fun

This clip is from my Move class where we focus on functional fitness

What this means is that we train our body to move easily in ways that will help us with everyday activities, like getting up from the floor without huge effort, or balancing on the pebbles on the beach.

Next class is Friday 28th November. Come and try your first class for FREE. Use the code ‘FIRSTFREE’ at checkout

You’ve probably heard the phrase “stress is stored in the hips” but have you ever wondered if that’s actually true?

There’s a solid physiological reason behind it.

When we’re stressed, anxious, or frightened, our body’s instinct is to curl up — to protect the vital organs. That means our hip flexors contract, pulling us forward into a protective position.

If that tension never gets released, the body stays stuck in a “ready to run” pattern. Over time, that can show up as:
💥 Tight, aching hips
💥 Lower back pain
💥 Pelvic tension or digestive discomfort
💥 Stiffness through the spine and legs
💥 Even shallow breathing and fatigue

So next Tuesday 18th November, 7–8 p.m., come join me at St Peter’s Church Hall for a Release class dedicated to unlocking the hips and letting your body breathe again.

We’ll use gentle movement, breathwork, and somatic release techniques release stored stress and tension from your hips.

This is Hendricks, he’s started doing this cute spooning thing.
He just snuggles down next to me and begins to purr

In that moment, my body slows down before my mind does.

It’s wild how safety works, it can come from soft fur and tiny paws.

When I snuggle him, my heart rate drops.
My shoulders loosen.
My breath gets deeper without me trying.

That’s co-regulation.
His calm nervous system tells mine,
“You’re safe now.”

You don’t always need a long routine or perfect mindset.
Sometimes you just need another steady person or a loved pet to remind your body it’s okay.

These small moments are medicine.
They teach your system how calm feels again.

Your body doesn’t need fixing it needs safety.
