It's understandable to think that a fully automatic AED might be safer or easier to operate than a semi-automatic one. However, that's not always the case. During any rescue and with any type of AED, the following steps must always be followed:
1️⃣ Turn on the AED
2️⃣ Open it
3️⃣ Take the pads out of the AED
4️⃣ Place them in the correct position on the chest
5️⃣ Administer the shock
In the last step, a fully automatic AED counts down and then delivers the shock automatically. With a semi-automatic AED, you have to press the shock button yourself - which happens to be the simplest step of all!
Whether an AED is safe and easy to operate is much more determined by how easily the first four steps can be completed. The Philips HS1 has a unique handle that allows you to open the AED and grab the pads immediately, while the AED turns on automatically: steps 1 through 3 all in one! After that, you only need to complete steps 4 and 5, as simple as can be. This makes the Philips HS1 the most user-friendly AED in the world.
