Andrew has had an article he contributed to published in this month's British Dairying

In all fairness, Andrew contributed to the article six months ago, and had completely forgotten all about it until this morning when he had a call from Scotland asking some further questions on the topic of Amino Acids!

A quick online search remind him about the article!

If you want to know more then please do reach out to discuss the benefits of correctly balancing rumen protected amino acids, so see if they can help your business.

This week has been a quiet week for Andrew, but there always things going on in the background!

Definitely good to see more cows out and about this week as things continue to dry and the ground impressions improve..

On the nutrition front Andrew spent some time with a client discussing the commissioning of their new mill & mix operation, and what (limited) products to store to achieve the different outcomes required.

Some quick sums indicated that a potential saving of £30/t could be made, after the milling operation has been taken into account, on their current feed prices and so will soon pay for the investment made.

Then on the podcast for the first time it hit over 1,000 downloads in the last 30 days, so really pleased about that. Been getting close a few times over the last month!

Then yesterday a podcast for April was recorded with Jeremy Perkins, from Silostop, discussing the construction, regulations, preparation and safety of silage pits for the future, and the coming season.

This week saw the release of the podcast on the European Dairy Farmers Congress which has achieved the level now consistently achieved of a top 25% levels of downloads before the weekend, so after only three days.

On today's release we are talking about the upcoming European Dairy Farmers e.V. (EDF) Congress.

We are joined by three guests from EDF UK; Roger Hildreth, EDF UK Chairman, David Jones, EDF UK European Council Member and Richard Simpson, from Kingshay Farming, EDF UK Secretary & Scientific Partner as they tell us all about the plans for the EDF Congress that will be held in the UK for the first time since 2011.

Find out more about what the EDF is, and where and when the Congress will be held and what will happen during the congress.

Last week Andrew attended a couple of farmer meeting, which included, on Thursday, the Farm Carbon Toolkit "Carbon Farmer of the Year" Farm Walk at the home of Helen & Stuart Rogers.

After an initial introduction all those present braved the blustery weather to inspect the maize fields, where the strip till maize process the farm uses was discussed, before, looking at some grass land and discussing making better Nitrogen Usage Efficiency (NUE) of the nitrogen used on farm, by making it targeted to get the best ROI.

The group then continued around to look at a couple of strips of agroforestry that had been planted on farm with the ultimate aim of the cows grazing them vertically once better established.

It was great to see so many people, some having travelled from across the country, and some great discussions where had about maize, grassland establishment, fertiliser usage, hedgerows and many more things on the day.

From listening to Helen & Stuart there are some easy wins out there, all while maintaining a high producing Holstein herd, so there is nothing that they are doing that can't be replicated elsewhere!

Many thanks to them for hosting a very interesting day.

Last week Andrew attended a couple of farmer meeting, which included, on Wednesday, the AHDB Dairy UK Dairy Carbon Network meeting at Kingspool Holsteins.

A very well attended event, with a good fifty people there on the day to hear more about the initiative, and then talks from Jamie Robertson about ventilation and The George Farm Vets give a demonstration on lung scanning for calves.

Very interesting. Unfortunately Andrew couldn't stay for the later discussion but good to see so many people attending.

A bit late putting this up than normal, after spending some time with the family.

This week Andrew talks about a client's beef finishing group now achieving 2.2kg DLWG!

Then with cows going out have you started to think about your silage plan yet for 2026? As we learnt from our podcast in April 2025, with Eric Dorr, the key is the planning!

The this week Andrew joined a couple of farm walks (pictures yet to be put up).

The first was with the UK Dairy Carbon Network, and the second was for the "Carbon Farmer of the Year" farm walk, with previous guests Helen & Stuart Rogers.

The take away from that walk was we can all do this, by making some very simple changes, to get some very easy wins!

Then we had some planning meetings for Year Five of the podcast, but we can't share too much about that yet!

Last week saw the release of the podcast with Andrew Sincock, talking about Bokashi, and that achieved similar download levels to the other podcasts since the start of 2026.

Then next week sees the release of a podcast about the upcoming European Dairy Farmers (EDF) Congress in Cheshire, in June.

For this we are joined by EDF UK Members; Roger Hildreth, David Jones & Richard Simpson. So look out for that on Wednesday.

07/03/2026

This week has been a quite week on the nutrition front with a few tweaks done for some beef & dairy clients, but as we move towards the end of winter there aren't really many changes to make now unless the forages change.

Andrew forgot to mention in his video this morning that he was out doing some more RoMS mobility scoring. this week, for a local client!

Otherwise he attended a very informative day this week thanks to AHDB Beef & Lamb, looking at soils, and how you can get more with less when you have healthy soils!

Then this week with the podcast saw the release of a new episode with Andrew Sincock talking about Bokashi, what it is and the benefits it can bring.

It's done very well hitting triple figures in the first 24 hours, and already Top 25%! We will just have to see how it does in the important metric of the first 7 days!

Andrew also forgot to mention congratulations to Sarah Tomlinson for becoming our second podcast to achieve 400 downloads with her episode from March 2025 talking about her role with TBAS.

Then to round the week off a rare day off visiting Wookey Hole!

Great day out in the sun today as Andrew attended an AHDB Beef and Lamb event entitled "More from less - making the most of your soils.".

The event was hosted by two local farmers, who work closely together, Rob Addicott & Jeremy Padfield who talked about the journey they have been on since both selling their cows, within a year of each other, over twenty years ago.

This has involved working closely together, and in more recent times working to improve their soils.

The speaker was the excellent Tom Tolputt from Terrafarmer who talked about the fact no matter your system there are things that can be done to improve your soils, and by improving them this has knock on effects for the whole farm, and saves costs with less inputs required.

We completely agree because to feed your cows you need good quality forages, and to have good quality forages you need to have good, healthy soils.

Thank you for an informative day, and it was great to see so many people, despite the sunshine!

Just over six weeks ago we revealed that Laura Tennant from Trouw Nutrition GB had become our first podcast to hit 400 downloads after Sarah Tomlinson had got within one download of taking the top spot!

Well congratulations to Sarah Tomlinson from TB Advisory Service who today became our second podcast to reach 400 downloads!

It just how how important having access to good TB advice can be, as Sarah has told us several times about how people have recognised her voice from listening to her on the podcast!

Congratulations Sarah!

In other news Ian Garner from from Antler Bio has moved into #3 on our all time list, with his talk on Epigenetics, which will not be too far away from hitting the 400 mark as well!

Can you believe it's March already? Which means its spring (here in the Northern Hemisphere)?

However what that does mean? It's already time for our next podcast, our fifth release of 2026!

This time we are joined by Andrew Sincock from Agriton UK to discuss bokashi!

We start by discussing what bokashi actually is, and how simple the process of it's production is.

Then we discuss the why and how, by a simple process most, if not all, dairy & beef producers are familiar with, it retains more nutrients and therefore reduces the need for fertiliser inputs!
