✨⛪️SENSORY SERVICE⛪️✨

Yesterday in the home we were pleased to welcome the Rev Jess...

Jess was amazing and really took the time to say hello and get to know each of our residents prior to her taking a service of communion in our lounge.

As soon as Jess walked in everyone's interests were immediately piqued, bringing with her something which you would not normally see in a church service...

A fantastic glitter ball!

This was no ordinary glitter ball as it also doubled as a bluetooth speaker on which to play the music for the hymns.

After leading the service, including hymns, 'All Things Bright & Beautiful' and 'Morning Has Broken, Jess posed for a quick photo with one of our lovely residents and his visiting wife who also joined us for the service too.

Is it just us, or do they look markedly like the next Strictly Come Dancing winners?!😆 (They all had a good laugh at this!)

Jess, thank you so much for your gentle kindness and warmth which you showed everyone and for your fun personality which really shone threw!

✨🧐WHAT'S IN THE BOX?🧐✨

Every couple of weeks we get a brand new Memory Box delivered by The Dorset Memory Box Library...

Each box is filled with treasures and artifacts from yesteryear, prompting memories and discussions among our lovely group of residents.

Each time a box is delivered, we never know what we're going to find as it changes every time.

In a recent box, we found some miniature matchbox vehicles, including an old fashioned tram, which sparked conversations about holidays in Blackpool and the seaside.

But for one of our residents, an ex-nurse, she was intrigued to find an old fashioned first aid kit, including bottles labelled iodine and a tins of Germaline - Do you remember how that smelt? Our residents did - They also remembered smelling salts too!

Of course, we also had to demonstrate how to bandage a potentially broken arm too.

Residents love these sessions and in turn, sharing their memories from times gone by.❤️

✨💅BEAUTIFUL HANDS!💅✨

What a lovely moment we witnessed recently...

One of our lovely residents received a visit from a dear friend, who spent some time giving her a little hand pamper!

Gently filing and cleaning off the old polish, she then painted her nails with a beautiful lilac colour, chatting and putting the world to rights as she did so.

What do you think of the finished results?

We think she did a fabulous job and we had one happy lady as a result!

Last week we showed you the process behind our cinnamon swirls...

Today you can take a look at the finished treats!

On hand to help showcase them was Sheila's visiting son, Andrew along with his gorgeous chihuahua, Loki.

Taste testing them, everyone agreed they were absolutely yummy!

One of our lovely residents recently helped us out with a little task...

With another resident's birthday on the horizon, the wonderful Margaret was delighted to help us out with a little task.

Present wrapping!

At 100 years young, Margaret was very pleased with herself when she managed to help us out and she did a marvelous job too.

'I haven't done any wrapping for a long time.'

But didn't she do a great job?☺️👏

✨😋CINNAMON SWIRLS!😋✨

Residents this week were busy cooking up a little something delicious...

Baking Club this week was Cinnamon Swirls!

Rolling out the puff pastry sheets, they each them helped to sprinkle firstly cinnamon, then sugar on to the pastry, before gently spreading it all out evenly.

The tricky bit was rolling up into a giant sausage, before cutting the individual swirls, then adding a little egg wash ready for baking.

Reminiscence is a wonderful way to engage with our residents, helping them recall positive moments from their lives...

So yesterday afternoon several of our residents spent time enjoying a stroll down memory lane, as they took a look through some of our Famous Faces cards.

Pictured is the lovely Dave, who really enjoyed doing this and remembered lots of lovely memories from the lives of these individuals.

From Lester Piggott, the jockey, to Audrey Hepburn and many more!

One particular favourite was Norman Wisdom, the comedian, who Dave could not stop raving about!

✨🍪CAKE & COOKIES!🍰✨

Yesterday morning in the beautiful sunshine, some of the residents enjoyed a cookie & cake break...

Getting outside in the sunny weather, we took a short, but leisurely stroll down to Black Cactus Shaftesbury, a lovely local cafe.

Residents, Margaret & Jean were greeted by the fabulous staff there, who were wonderful hosts!

Enjoying a slice of Dorset apple cake, a delicious Biscoff cookie, and of course, a lovely hot cuppa, the pair chatted, recalling their memories of Shaftesbury over the years and just enjoying this delightful change of scene.

Thank you Black Cactus Shaftesbury! Our duo really enjoyed your hospitality and the wonderful atmosphere.❤️

Residents had a fun afternoon recently as they had a challenging 'Guess the Logo' quiz...

There was lots of discussion, memories shared and quite a bit of laughter involved as they all worked together to guess the logos.

We had a lovely surprise at the home this week as our good friend Dan popped in for a visit! 😊 He took some of our residents on a wonderful outing to explore the beautiful sights of Shaftesbury. 🏞️🛣️
They enjoyed a lovely stroll, shared plenty of laughs, and topped it all off with a delicious lunch and cakes that were thoroughly enjoyed. 🍽️❤️

✨🍦ICE CREAM TREATS!🍦✨

There was a special treat in store for one of our residents this week...

Knowing that this particular lady in question loves her ice cream, we were able to facilitate a special trip up to Shaftesbury's Ecco Gelato for her and her husband.

Thoroughly enjoying getting out and about and taking in the hustle and bustle of the High Street, she was then delighted to be treated to an ice cream and a coffee alongside her lovely husband.

The ice cream may have been cold, but outings such as this really warm the heart and it was lovely to see lots of smiles on her face as a result!😄
