🚨CALLING ALL SHEFFIELD MED STUDENTS🚨

Do YOU have an issue that you are passionate about and want to have YOUR say?!

The National BMA medical students conference is the most prestigious event for medical students in the UK and takes place next year on April 4-5th in London.

The conference gives you a national platform to use your voice, influence change nationally, and is viewed by many past delegates as the highlight of their medical school year.

In order to represent Sheffield Medical School at this year’s conference, you need to submit a short motion (120 words) on an issue you are passionate about.

Advice during industrial action this week

As you will know, junior doctors are striking on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week over pay.

If you are on placement, beware of being asked to fulfil the role of a junior doctor. If you are being pressured, please refuse and notify the BMA. Working outside your level of competency not only undermines our junior doctor colleagues, but can also have repercussions for your career.

If you are not on placement, please consider showing your support at one of the below locations. Homemade placards will be very welcome!

Nominations are now open to nominate yourself to replace Joy and I as your Sheffield Representatives on the BMA's Medical Students Committee!

Nominations will close on 13th April. Voting will then be open from 14th April to 12th May.

BMA members have voted in favour of industrial action with a huge 98% yes vote on a 77% turnout.

This is an amazing result and shows that enough is enough. Doctors have seen their pay fall by 26% and it’s time for pay restoration.

As medical students, a successful strike and restoration of pay has a huge impact on us, and I hope you will continue to lend your support to our doctor colleagues.

Joy and I will be distributing lanyards, badges, pens and stickers in the coming weeks so you can display your support. We will share advice on how you can support the campaign, and how you can keep yourselves safe on placement.

UKFPO changes

Health Education England (HEE) have launched a review of the UK Foundation Programme (UKFPO) allocation process.

They are currently consulting on whether the process should remain in its current format which sees applicants ranked according to their FP Score based on an Educational Performance Measure (EPM) and their Situational Judgement Test (SJT) mark or move to a new system that will see each applicant given a computer-generated ranking.
