Strength training , it is beneficial at many different phases of life , but it isnāt something we are taught how to do .
And so, many people shy away from it
Where to start ?
Well firstly if you are afraid to lift weights šļøāāļø because you are worried you will injure yourself with poor techniqueā¦.
Do you think about your technique when you do the weekly supermarket shop and lift all the bags in in 1 go whilst running because itās raining?
Or pick up your 25kg kid- surfboard style ,10kg baby and the changing bag , scooter and push the pram or trolley swiftly out of a shop because you want to avoid toddler meltdown?
Or lift the dog into the boot of the car
No , you donāt
And I could go on
My point is this
- you are already strength training with the worst technique ever , every day
- you lift weights more times in every day life
So next time you head towards that exercise bike or out of the door for some cardio and bypass those scary dumbells or kettle bells - stop , think for a moment and have a go.
And remember the benefits for bone health , brain health , heart health and also independence as we age.
Gyms have great gym floor staff who can point you in the right direction , most memberships offer at least 1 introductory PT session
