As the year begins to slow down, many people naturally feel drawn to pause and reflect. This quieter time can be a valuable opportunity to notice what has gone well, even in small or subtle ways.
From a neuroscience perspective, what we focus on really matters. When the brain repeatedly scans for problems, it strengthens stress pathways linked to the amygdala and threat response. However, when we deliberately notice progress, positives, and moments of coping, we activate different neural networks linked to calm, perspective, and motivation.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works with this natural process. By gently guiding attention towards what is already working and what the future could look like, the brain begins to shift out of survival mode. Over time, this helps calm the nervous system, reduce overthinking, and strengthen more balanced patterns of thought.
Change does not need to be dramatic to be meaningful. Small reflections, small shifts in focus, and small moments of hope all send powerful signals to the brain that things are moving in the right direction.
As this year draws to a close, even noticing one small positive can be enough to support change.
We would like to know, what are you noticing that has gone well for you this year, even in a small way?
