Say it with me: SENSITIVITY IS A STRENGTH.
For most of my life, my sensitivity was something that I was ashamed of. It’s not really a quality that is celebrated in our society, but I think the time has come for it to be recognized and appreciated.
I’m not going to stand here and say that it’s a superpower; it doesn’t make you better than other people. But, in the same breath, it doesn’t make you worse either. Like all qualities, it comes with its positive and negative manifestations. But we sensitive people have been fed the idea that it’s an inconvenience to not only ourselves but everybody else. It’s something that people have tried to toughen out of us. But you can’t shame yourself into changing, and it perpetuates the belief that we are TOO sensitive, TOO emotional, and TOO soft.
This is the part that I refute because it’s most certainly not true. We are not too much of anything. We just process stimuli, relationships, and experiences a little differently. Sensitivity has many positive expressions and provides the world with beauty, meaning, and connection.
We need both people who are sensitive and people who are resilient. There is value in both!
Are you a sensitive soul? How would you feel if you flipped the narrative and saw your sensitivity as a strength?
