It can be overwhelming to think about sharing your struggles.

But remember, taking that step into therapy is a courageous move.

You might be looking for help, space to process your thoughts or struggles or be seeking understanding and connection - something every neurodivergent adult deserves.

A bit of self care can go a long way.

(3/3) Build Self-Acceptance and a Community of Support

Practicing self-compassion, even if this feels strange at first, can go a long way to building self-acceptance and helping you recognise the brilliance of your true self.

Connecting with others who are neurodivergent can help you feel less isolated and also provide a support network for problem solving and provide a space for shared understanding.

And remember to be kind to yourself if things don’t go as planned. Progress is not always linear and it’s ok to adapt your approach and goals as you journey through the year.

(2/3) Tailor your approach to fit your needs.

Many people think a complete overhaul is the best way to make changes.
But starting with small, manageable steps is often the key to lasting progress.

This slower, steadier approach builds a solid foundation for meaningful change.

For those of us who are ADHD, the excitement of goal setting can breathe life into our routines, while for Autistic individuals, those small, repeatable steps create the comfort of familiar patterns.

Creating a supportive environment is crucial. Find your space, ensure there’s downtime to help minimise overstimulation and overwhelm. Remember, it’s okay to take it one step at a time.

From a neurodivergent perspective shifting the focus from 'new you' to 'true you', helps to bring self-compassion, authenticity and small but significant steps of progress.

Over the next few days we're going to bring you steps to help you focus on approaching the new year from a neurodivergent perspective.

(1/3) Starting with...........Reframing Expectations and Goals

Focus on your authenticity and the parts of yourself that you’d like to develop or evolve, rather than the ‘new year-new me’ push which we can feel pressured into by society and that can quickly lead to burnout and feelings of failing before we’ve barely got started.

Instead setting gentle intentions with flexibility built in, and acknowledging that rest can be productive, will all help bring about meaningful changes, positive wellbeing, and a place from where any dreams and goals you seek can grow.

Forget "new year, new me". Let's focus on being the true you. More Authenticity, Less Overwhelm. Who's with us?
