Mindfulness of nature 2: Trees
We know that trees are essential in producing oxygen and reducing air quality. Trees actively filter pollutants from the air - not only are they the lungs of the planet, they're the liver too!

Mindfulness of nature 2: Trees
Trees planted in cities act as a natural sunscreen and lower the temperature of the streets.

Last year there was quite a bit of talk about the heat in Montreal and the fact that so many people were dying during one of their heat waves. That was directly attributed to the lack of trees and their […]

Using mindfulness to help with the easing of lockdown restrictions (re-entry anxiety).

We’ve all had to adapt to new ways of living and interacting over the last year or so, but now that restrictions are being lifted, some people may be anxious about returning to the ‘old normal’.

Our worries may relate to feelings of social anxiety and feeling uncomfortable about talking face to face with people we haven’t met for a while.

See my blog for tips on how to deal with the easing of lockdown restrictions:

What are 5 mindfulness activities I could try?
5: Single-tasking
"The man who chases two rabbits catches neither." Confucius.
Many of us feel a sense of pride in being able to multi-task. But evidence suggests that it is not effective and can trigger stress. ‘Switching’ between tasks (which is what happens when we think we are multi-tasking) can lead to mental overload, as well as inefficiency. The answer is try to single-task, focusing entirely on one task, with as few interruptions or distractions as possible.

What are 5 mindfulness activities I could try?
3: Loving kindness.

All religions and humanist philosophies have at the their heart the idea that we should treat those around us with respect and consideration.

Whilst mindfulness meditation encourages our own personal self-fulfillment and wellbeing, it also includes the principle of 'Metta' - loving kindness and cultivating an attitude of warmth and acceptance for those around us.
"May you be safe, may you be healthy, may you live with ease and happiness."
See my blog for suggestions on how to treat people with loving kindness.

Mindfulness at work tip 5.
Try to eat your lunch mindfully, and away from your desk. Take time to focus on what you are eating, savouring the tastes, temperatures and textures.

What are 5 mindfulness activities I could try?
4: Go for a mindful walk.
A mindful walk is not about the exercise (although that is a bonus!). It's about bringing our awareness fully into where we are and what we are experiencing.

What are 5 mindfulness activities I could try?
3: Loving kindness

"Interdependence is a fundamental law of nature. Even tiny insects survive by mutual cooperation based on innate recognition of their interconnectedness. It is because our own human existence is so dependent on the help of others that our need for love lies at the very foundation of our existence." Dalai Lama.

"One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.” —George Carlin
It may feel good at the time, but excess drinking can lead to low mood and anxiety the next day.
