It was confirmed recently that I have secured a place for the 2021 Marathon in the big city itself London! Lockdown life has been hard for us all but I've kept myself busy doing lots of training for the up coming big day. I ran for 100 consecutive days, and have completed 700 miles since January. Al...

TIP OF THE DAY: Keep your long runs aerobic. 65% to 75% of max. Conversational. Try not to push too hard in workouts or get out of breath, particularly in the early miles of long runs. You'll be able to finish stronger if you start slow. And in a race, you'll pass a lot of people in the closing miles.

β€œOh you run, that must be bad for your knees!” β€œAll that running you do, you’ll be a cripple when you’re older...” Many things I hear regularly as a physiotherapist and a runner are purely folklore, with no scientific evidence to back them up. In this blog we’ll be looking at one of th...

With Ramadan starting next week, here are some top tips to keep on running from an experienced local runner, Arif.

With Ramadhan fast approaching, we still want to keep ourselves fit by continuing to run. Below are some simple tips to help you with some things that have helped me in the previous 3 Ramadhans

1. Drink plenty of water at Sahoor and Iftaar. I typically drink a minimum of 1 pint at both times.
2. Double up on your dates (keeping it odd), they are a great for energy. Typically, I take 9 at Iftaar, and 3 at Sahoor.
3. When running, knock down the pace a bit, on average I knocked down by a min a mile on my long runs.
4. keep things healthy, stay away from fried food, and consume plenty of fruit, smoothies may be in order.

I am always amazed by how few outdoor enthusiasts know the true origin of cairns. I feel it is really important that this information is out there as it highlights why we shouldn't be adding to, damaging or building new cairns, as this will only confuse any much needed research on the subject. When....

TIP OF THE DAY: At the 1896 Olympic Games, a Belgian runner was entered in the 100 meters and the marathon. When reporters quizzed him as to how he could train for two such diverse events, he said: I run a short distance at a fast pace one day, and a long distance at a slow pace the next day. Really, training is that simple. And while I applaud everybody for trying to analyze their training using my app and performance charts, sometimes you simply need to get out and run. Get your heart rate up to 80-90 percent a couple of days a week, do a lot of running at 60 to 70 percent most of the rest of the week and once a week throw in something in between. Oh, and don’t forget to take a day or two off. Training is not that complicated unless we make it complicated.
