Well….I’ve signed myself up to something BIG….Im doing my PT and Coaching training to push my love of fitness and health. I start this journey on 8/9/25 and will be renovating my garage to help me utilise my skills.
People who know me know I have struggled through 2024/2025 with a cancer diagnosis, and I pushed myself through this using fitness and lifestyle changes. I am also a nurse who manages patients with diabetes/ pre diabetes /asthma/COPD/menopause symptoms, so I want to use the two skills together to help people change their life for the better.

The plan is to provide clients with personal training and bespoke plans and group training sessions.

Well, I’ve been rather quiet on here but I was just waiting for some final test results to come through before I made an announcement.

I am now fully cancer free 🥳 and have made an informed decision to not have the radio ion therapy previously mentioned. I’ve recently had an MRI to check if I had a cancerous lump in the back of my neck. The results are in and it’s a pr*****ed disc in my neck so whilst yes it’s an issue and causing pain it’s not related to my thyroid cancer.

I will be having 3 monthly follow ups at Weston Park, so I am very reassured that I am being looked after.

I will also be letting you all in on another little secret soon…..all will be revealed after my holiday ☺️

I saw these posts on and thought they were really useful for anyone going through this journey, or for anyone who is interested in my personal journey.

When I am smashing the gym at stupid o’clock it’s not because I’m mad (I am 🤪) it’s because it helps me so much for a variety of reasons. Some days really are a struggle to push and get there but after I have worked out I feel less “messy” in my head.

The gym gives me:
Head space, time for me.
Sometimes I work out with friends- it gives me support.
It allows me to be in control.
And being on this medication scares me as I’ve always really worried about staying at a certain weight- I almost declined the 2nd surgery because of this. So when the scales start creeping- I push harder.

I haven’t been myself since this diagnosis and even more so since the completion surgery- this really frustrates me, so I’m going to use these tools and resources to help push through the feelings. This is my new norm and I should consider myself very lucky 🍀

I hope someone else finds this useful 🤩

So today I attended ‘Look Good Feel Better’

A national cancer support charity that helps boost physical and emotional wellbeing of people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

This fab workshop was run locally and I’ve met some lovely people (the volunteers and the other people attending). I came away with a massive goodie bag of cosmetics (bigger than my head), provided by cosmetic companies - but most importantly I came away with the phone number of the lady next to me who I will definitely be meeting up with for a cuppa.

Male and female workshops available.

If you have had the C Bomb dropped at any point, go check out the workshops.

14 days ago today I had surgery, my neck cut open and the rest of my thyroid removed.

Today, (I should still be resting and recovering) I took the step to head back to the gym for a) my mental health and b) to get back in shape physically post op. I took this step slowly, lowering my weights and working on legs and bum rather than upper body movements pulling on my neck area.

3 things to help recovery:
1️⃣ Stay hydrated
2️⃣ Eat lots of protein- and eat clean- protein works as the building blocks to aid the physical recovery post op.
3️⃣ Keep active - this can prevent DVTs post surgery, keeps the blood flowing which again will help recovery. I’ve ensured since 2 days post op I’ve been doing 10k plus steps a day.

I hear so many patients coming in telling me they can’t do exercise, always an excuse, but the FACT is everyone can do some form of exercise. You must dig deep, find a goal and work to it.
Is it tiring? YES some days.
Do we all feel confident trying new things? Absolutely not! But it’s about pushing through that barrier.

I got to the gym this morning and started my workout, whilst reading the motivational wall which triggered so many feelings for me today. Positive energy streaming through me this morning so the picture was captured.

Let’s have some POSITIVITY on INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY ✨✨✨

I’ve had a rough couple of days, teamed with terrible fatigue and lots of private tears yesterday. Today is a new day, and the sun is shining…..life is precious and there’s so much to feel positive about.

Embrace life, family and those friends who bring good into life.

I’m now off for a lovely walk with the fam 🫶🏼

So, what actually is your thyroid?…..

Let me tell you even as a nurse, I’ve never really understood the thyroid UNTIL now. Let me tell you though, when I did know about it I cried for days at having my remaining half removed as it’s such an important organ in the body for a few reasons.

All throughout my journey, from pre diagnosis, to post diagnosis and even up until my second surgery my thyroid function on blood tests was COMPLETELY NORMAL!!

The Thyroid…
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It produces hormones that play a key role in regulating blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, metabolism and the reaction of the body to other hormones.

Can you live without your thyroid?
Yes, you can live without your thyroid. However, you’ll need to take hormone replacement medication for the rest of your life in order to stay healthy and prevent certain side effects and symptoms.

So here I am on daily Levothyroxine trying to balance the dose, which takes 6-8 weeks each dose amendment to get any change. Yet completely freaked out about any side effects (weight gain/fatigue etc) but sod it what will be will be 💪🏼 it will make me push harder. Watch this space ✨

So, whilst I’m off I’ll make a start on how I got to where I am today in view of the page changing and my recent diagnosis.

Almost a year ago, I had a lump I noticed on my neck when I swallowed it moved up and down. It crossed my mind…..is it my normal anatomy that I’d just not noticed because when do we ever drink in a mirror to see stuff like that?! It was soft and moved so sounded like good signs.

Scan = suspicious
FNA (fine needle biopsy) = indeterminate cells looked suspicious again.

So recommended I have the left side of my thyroid removed to have it sent for histology.

Results= follicular variant papillary carcinoma, to come back in a week after the MDT.
Returned= MDT decided was cancer and all removed, no further treatment.
‼️A WEEK LATER = letter from the hospital with my diagnosis “ ? Follicular variant? Papillary variant ?cancerous/ ? non cancerous”

I returned to speak to the consultant about the overall diagnosis after being told different by himself previously, he said he’s just the surgeon not the pathologist, he’s not sure but that was the overall outcome. I said I could attend a different hospital for a second opinion which he actually advised I do.

⏭️ Fastforward, new hospital gets all my slides, a top pathologist and endocrine consultant look at all the info and slides and I get called in to be seen face to face.

‼️ Diagnosis follicular variant papillary thyroid carcinoma, which was removed from the left side, HOWEVER (the important bit)- the cells were splitting fast which makes it an aggressive form and risk of spread. This is 6 months after the original surgery. Their advice is remove all the thyroid and radio ion therapy.

I couldn’t get my head round this and was adamant I wasn’t having any more treatment, but after lots of questions, tears and advice on the 25/2/25 my full thyroid was removed and I will now remain on thyroxine for life at a high dose.

The next step is Radio Ion Therapy in 8-10 weeks time.

So that’s the story in a nutshell, and here I am in bed recovering ready for the next step.
