Natalija Clark - Holistic Nutrition

Natalija Clark - Holistic Nutrition Nutritional Therapy made easy I have worked in the sector of nutrition since 2014. Root-cause approach is not for everyone.

As a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist I believe in evidence-based practice, combining a holistic functional medicine approach with conventional science. I believe that the body can heal from chronic health conditions, when we get to the root cause, address this and provide favourable conditions. It this takes time and commitment to heal conditions that have formed over some years. I run an online clinic, working with clients throughout the UK and internationally. I work with adults and children, where about half of my clients are children. I have a special interest in autoimmune conditions, supporting detoxification, skin conditions; fussy eating and developmental delays in children (including Down Syndrome, ADHD, Autism, etc.)

A study published in 2025 by researchers from Örebro University in Sweden and the University of Turku in Finland found that higher PFAS levels in mothers’ blood during pregnancy were associated with significant changes in the brains of children at age 5.

The brain areas affected included the corpus callosum (which connects the brain's two hemispheres), the occipital lobe (involved in vision), and the hypothalamus (which regulates hormones and metabolism).

Notably, different types of PFAS had varying effects — some appeared to increase certain brain structures while others reduced them.

These findings were based on advanced brain imaging techniques and careful statistical controls, although the sample size was relatively small (51 mother-child pairs), making the results preliminary.

While the study did not establish a direct cause-and-effect relationship, it adds to growing evidence that PFAS could disrupt early brain development through hormonal or other biochemical pathways.

The long-term behavioral or cognitive consequences of these brain changes remain unclear, and more follow-up studies are needed.

Given that PFAS are found in nearly everyone’s blood, this research is especially alarming and highlights the urgent need for better regulation and reduced exposure, particularly among pregnant women and young children.

Scientists warn that even low levels of exposure could potentially affect neurodevelopment, and they advocate for policy changes, improved public awareness, and stricter environmental controls.

It means my previous appearances were not too bad 😀
Talked about fibre maxing and protein.

Fibre.
If you do not eat enough gradually increase including a variety of plant based foods: vegetables, beans, lentils, chickpeas, whole grains, berries, fruit. See how you feel. Some foods might not agree with you.

Protein. Most people do not get enough.
Aim for about 1g of protein per 1 kg of your weight. Aim to eat protein at every meal.
For example 2-3 eggs for breakfast with one toast and instead of a bowl of cereal is a good choice.
Protein foods: meat, seafood, poultry, meat, eggs, dairy (cheese, yoghurt, cottage cheese).

Until recently I knew only one person with an allergy to meat.
By allergy I meat allergic reaction IgE, not a food intolerance IgG.

Last week I received my allergy test result and it shows that I have an allergy to meat. Luckily it is only moderate, but it means I should cut out meat for a while to support my immune health.

There could be a few factors to meat allergy.

The purpose of this post is to show that meat allergy is a real thing.

In my case it is very upsetting as I had meat daily. I hope that meat allergy will go away soon. I will do my best to work to improve this.

For those who live in the UK and wish to order an allergy test or a food intolerance test; feel free to contact me and I will offer a discount for this test.

The trouble with mouthwash

About 200 million people in the US and 17 million in the UK regularly swish with a mouthwash or dental rinse. It may sound like a good idea to keep your mouth fresh, but researchers have pointed out that there’s a connection between mouthwash use and hypertension for years.
A 2024 review of data from 55 studies reported that mouthwash could increase the risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes by 85 percent and 55 percent respectively.”

One 2019 study of a small group found that just one week of swishing with chlorhexidine mouthwash twice a day was enough to raise systolic blood pressure.

Now there’s an explanation for the connection: Antiseptic mouthwash blasts the nitrate-processing bacteria in the mouth, significantly reducing the conversion to Nitric Oxide (NO).

“People think they’re doing all the right things. They’re exercising and eating their vegetables,” says Dr Nathan Bryan,
“but they’re canceling those nitric oxide benefits by using mouthwash.”

Antibiotics also damage the oral microbiome, so take only those you need. Fluoride is another cause of damage to the oral microbiome, says Bryan.

How much protein are you eating?

I noticed that most of my clients do not eat enough protein.

Protein is vital for tissue repair, neurotransmitter productions, immune system, gut health, digestive and other enzyme production, etc.

If you are working on weight management number own priority is to increase protein intake to 1-1.5g per one kg of your weight.

If you aim to eat about 30g of protein per meal, this will be a good start.

Do not think that steak js only for dinner, eat any good protein, such as eggs, meat, poultry, fish at every meal 🥘
Other foods such as cheese, cottage cheese, nuts, yoghurt also contain protein.
However in some people dairy foods may contribute to weight gain and inflammation.

If you have chronic conditions or excessive weight, you could try exclude dairy for 3-4 weeks and see how you feel.

Forget about granolas and cereals, not much protein in there.

When people increase the amount of protein they might find digestive discomfort. This is a sign that there is a need to support digestion.

You can add digestive enzymes at every meal and potentially add bitters. Please let me know if you need brand recommendations.

Also you can drink this special drink before every meal, if this does not cause any discomfort: 100 ml of water + 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. This mildly supports digestion too.

Aim to chew your food thoroughly. As this also helps digestion.

Let me know how you are getting on.
