πŸ’œ Springwood πŸ’œ To mark Black History Month, our residents enjoyed a lively celebration filled with music, creativity, and conversation.

We sang along to Motown, reggae, and jazz, coloured African patterns, guessed Caribbean flags, shared Maya Angelou’s powerful poetry, and learned fun facts about Black artists. We shared memories and laughter over a slice of homemade Caribbean rum cake and a glass of punch or sweet tea. β™₯️ πŸ’š πŸ’›

πŸ’œ Burnt Tree Croft πŸ’œ Yesterday, our Burnt Tree Croft residents and team in Netherthorpe celebrated Black History Month in true Caribbean style!

We enjoyed a wonderful Caribbean Festival filled with homemade Caribbean and Zimbabwean food, vibrant dancing, and an incredible classic reggae DJ set from Radio Sheffield Live’s Robert Wellington 🎧

It was a joyful celebration of culture, music and community which was made even better as we were joined by a few of our fellow Sheffcare homes!

πŸ’œ Knowle Hill πŸ’œ Our residents & team have been spending this month exploring what kindness truly means to them, as part of our values.

From helping a friend with a smile, to sharing stories over a cuppa, our residents have been reflecting on all the little ways kindness makes our home such a warm and caring place to be. πŸ«–βœ¨

It’s been a lovely reminder that kindness doesn’t have to be grand, sometimes, it’s simply being there for one another.

Afterwards, everyone headed to the Cotleigh Arms Pub for a friendly game of dominoes β€” the perfect way to relax, chat, and enjoy each other’s company. 🍻✨

These simple moments of togetherness show how kindness is at the heart of everything we do at Sheffcare; from sharing a smile to spending time doing the things we love!

πŸ’œ Valley Wood πŸ’œ As Britain’s favourite dance show returns to TV for its autumn season, Valley Wood Care Home are adding their own Strictly sparkle to fitness and good health.

The team at Valley Wood has formed a partnership with dance specialist Tracey Barnes, of Dancing for Health CIC, the non-profit organisation that uses dance as a physical and social activity to help the elderly, disabled and people with long term health conditions, anxiety, stress, depression or loneliness.

Kathryn Rawling, Sheffcare’s Dementia and Wellbeing Manager, connected with Dancing for Health to bring together a programme that combines music and movement to support residents’ health and happiness

This project will now be extended across the other eight Sheffcare homes across the city.

β€œThe benefits of music for those people living with dementia is indisputable and putting this alongside formulated dancing , even for people who can no longer stand, increases health benefits for our residents,” Kathryn explained.

β€œResearch has shown that dancing and gentle exercise can help reduce the risk of developing dementia and we are exploring the way it can also help to slow down progression or even improve a person’s cognitive ability.

β€œThe project has really benefitted from the support of our activity worker Kathryn Ablett, who has been so enthusiastic in supporting residents in armchair dancing and exercise.

β€œThese sessions are based on previous very positive trials for other health issues such as Parkinsons disease, which have met with high levels of success.”

πŸ’œ Grange Crescent πŸ’œ Our residents recently enjoyed a wonderful day out in Cleethorpes, soaking up the sea air, enjoying fish and chips by the promenade, and sharing plenty of laughter along the way! πŸ πŸŸπŸ’™

Moments like these reflect how we try to incorporate kindness into every day; spending time together, making memories, and bringing joy to one another through simple acts of care and companionship πŸ’œ

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!
