Chloe and Merewyn recently attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, representing the Sheffcare HR team and recognising their work supporting recruitment in adult social care.

Their visit comes as Skills for Care highlights Sheffcare’s centralised, values-led recruitment model in its new Practical Approaches Toolkit. The toolkit recognises the positive impact our approach has had on recruitment, staff induction and retention across our homes.

💜 We're proud to announce that our Dementia and Wellbeing Manager Kathryn Rawling and Tracey Barnes director of Dancing for Health have won a top prize for Community Project of the year at the 2026 Move More Award for the Dancing with Dementia programme 💜

Kathryn connected with Dancing for Health CIC, the non-profit organisation that uses dance as a physical and social activity to support older adults, people with disabilities, and those living with long-term health conditions, anxiety, stress, depression, or loneliness.

Working with Dancing for Health’s Tracey Barnes, Kathryn gained funding for Sheffcare’s Dancing with Dementia program, which combines choreographed dance moves and music.

The project also formed part of a research project that was carried out by The University of Sheffield.

At a prize giving ceremony held at Sheffield’s Crowne Plaza, Royal Victoria Hotel, the project took the Move More Community Project of the Year award.

41 judges heard how a specially-funded 20-week seated dance class led by Tracey at Sheffcare’s specialist dementia home Valley Wood in Heeley was now being rolled out to the other eight Sheffcare homes across the city, giving home activity workers new skills and tools to sustain the project into the future.

“This award means so much, not only to all the Sheffcare team who have supported this project but also Dancing for Health and Tracey,” said Kathryn.

“By working closely with Dancing for Health, we delivered specific dance content for residents within Sheffcare care homes who are living with dementia, helping to enhance the resident’s wellbeing both physically and mentally.”

💜 Celebrating Social Care 💜 Linda was a regular visitor to Sheffield care home charity Sheffcare’s Midhurst Road home in Foxhill when mum Barbara was a resident.

But when Barbara died Linda found there was a gap in her world and after talking to the home’s activity workers, she decided to become a volunteer.

And her enthusiasm for her role supporting the Midhurst Road team and helping residents has led to her receiving a special national award.

Room to Reward is a unique volunteer-recognition charity created to say thank you to the nation’s hidden heroes, the inspirational volunteers who give up their time to make a difference to those who need it most.

The team at Midhurst Road and Sheffcare put Linda forward for the accolade and were delighted when her volunteer efforts were recognised.

“Linda is very efficient and approachable,” said Midhurst Road manager Helen Gibson.

“She can talk to anyone and has a comforting and reassuring nature and this has a very positive effect on the residents.

It is especially wonderful for our residents living with dementia when they become confused and upset - her ability to engage so positively with all the residents is a real help to us at busy times.”

💜 Celebrating Social Care at Sheffcare 💜

It’s often the little things that bring the biggest smiles 💛

As part of the Skills for Care campaign, we’re celebrating the everyday moments that make life in our homes so special. From favourite hobbies to trying something new, it’s these activities that add joy, purpose, and connection to each day.

Across every Sheffcare home, our dedicated Activity Workers play a vital role in making this happen. They take the time to understand each resident’s interests, creating meaningful activities that are tailored to what people love—whether that’s baking, gardening, music, or simply spending time together.

At Knowle Hill Residential Home, one of those joyful moments recently came from a baking session 🍰 The kitchen was filled with laughter, delicious smells, and a real sense of togetherness as residents enjoyed getting hands-on and sharing the experience.
