Ever feel like the harder you try with your pelvic floor exercises, the less they seem to work?
If you're neurodivergent, there is a clinical reason for that.
For a long time, pelvic health has been treated as a simple muscle strength issue: the more you squeeze/do your kegels, the stronger the muscle is and the less leaks, right?
Wrong.
For the neurodivergent brain, the bladder-brain dialogue is a sophisticated one, which follows a different set of rules, which need to be addressed when providing support to stop leaking:
🧠 Interoception: Lowered interoceptive awareness means your brain physically "mutes" bladder signals, leading to those sudden, high-pressure emergencies.
👀 Hyperfocus: The ADHD brain in flow is so efficient at task-focus that it can temporarily override the body's physical cues.
💪 Hypermobility: The connective tissue requires a sophisticated approach to providing pelvic support that goes far beyond a simple muscle squeeze.
When we look at these factors together, we stop treating the symptom and start supporting the whole system.
When we move away from the "just squeeze more" narrative and toward a neuro-affirming approach, we can finally build a plan that is sustainable, successful, and works with your biology.
When we stop fighting against your biology and start working with it, we can build a path forward that actually feels sustainable.
Does this help explain some of the frustrations you’ve been feeling lately?
