Here’s something a bit different… a healed PCL!

A client sustained a full PCL rupture and grade II MCL strain during a hyperflexion injury in an overseas game.

We implemented a knee bracing protocol with early weight-bearing and gym-based strengthening.

12-week MRI results:
🔹 Interval healing of the PCL
🔹 Significant MCL improvement

Clinical testing:
✅ Negative posterior drawer
✅ Negative posterior sag sign

I’m always asked what Shockwave therapy involves!

Here’s a few tips!

Shockwave therapy offers significant benefits for various musculoskeletal conditions by accelerating the body's natural healing process, reducing pain and inflammation, and breaking down calcified tissues.

Key advantages include non-invasive treatment (non surgical), promoting the growth of new blood vessels, enhancing tissue repair and regeneration, improving blood circulation for better nutrient delivery, and helping to avoid medication or surgery.

This can lead to faster recovery times and a quick return to daily activities, making it an effective option for chronic pain and stubborn injuries!

Now you are wondering shockwave hurts?

During the Treatment:

Discomfort vs. Pain: You may feel mild discomfort or an intense sensation, but it should not be truly painful.

Adjustable Intensity: Therapists can adjust the intensity of the shockwaves to manage discomfort, ensuring it remains tolerable.

Short Duration: Treatment sessions are typically short, usually only 3-5 minutes, making the discomfort manageable for most people.

Body Sensitivity: Areas with less skin and muscle may feel more sensitive than fleshier areas.

After the Treatment:

Temporary Discomfort: Some temporary discomfort, redness, or bruising in the treatment area is normal and can last for 24-48 hours.

Indicates Healing: This temporary soreness can be a sign that the body's natural healing response is being stimulated.

Avoid NSAIDs: You should avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen after treatment, as they can counteract the healing process

The number of shockwave therapy sessions needed varies by condition, but typically ranges from 3 to 6 sessions, with treatments scheduled weekly or every other week.

While some patients report significant improvement after just a few sessions, full benefits are often seen after completing the entire course of treatment, which may be spread out over several weeks or months.

The specific number of sessions will be determined by your specialist after an individual assessment.
