Bone health is rarely as simple as calcium and DEXA scores.

In practice, it reflects the interaction of multiple systems - from hormonal signalling and inflammatory load to gut function and cellular energy. When these drivers are overlooked, risk can be missed and interventions fall short.

In this upcoming Roadmap our Head of Education, Tanya explores the deeper physiology shaping bone density and resilience - including why fractures can occur despite “normal” results, and how a systems-based approach changes both assessment and intervention.

A focused session for practitioners looking to move beyond surface-level strategies and support bone health with greater precision.

Bone health is often reduced to calcium, in practice, it’s far more complex.

Calcium, particularly when used in isolation, is frequently over-relied upon - often without assessing whether it addresses the underlying drivers of bone turnover or whether the necessary cofactors are in place to support its function.

A more effective approach considers the structure, composition and regulation of bone itself.

Collagen forms the matrix that gives bone its strength and flexibility.
Minerals contribute to density and stability.
Trace elements such as boron and silica support the integrity and organisation of that structure.

Each of these products reflects a different aspect of bone physiology - from matrix support to mineral balance and structural integrity.

As part of our Beyond Bone Density theme, we’re exploring the systems and nutrients that contribute to bone health beyond the basics.

When would you actually reach for beta glucan? Here are three presentations where you’d consider adding to a protocol immediately.

Post-viral fatigue: Client presenting with persistent fatigue, brain fog, and low NK cell activity twelve months after a viral illness. Beta glucan 500mg daily to support immune reconditioning and function.

Recurrent respiratory infections: Perimenopausal woman, three to four respiratory infections per year, antibiotic dependent. Erratic oestrogen is shifting her Th1/Th2 balance. Beta glucan to support innate immune response — alongside addressing the hormonal picture.

Autoimmune: Client with Hashimoto's, wanting immune support without stimulation. Start low — Beta Glucan 100 — and titrate . Modulation not stimulation means this is appropriate where other immune supplements wouldn't be.

Same extract, different dose depending on clinical need. BWH-85™ from Better Way Health - now available through Amrita.

Osteoporosis is one of those conditions we think we understand — until we look more closely. Calcium and vitamin D have dominated the conversation for decades, and whilst they matter, they represent a fraction of the full picture.

This May, Amrita is dedicating the whole month to bone health —each week brings fresh education, curated clinical tools, and products chosen for their evidence base and therapeutic depth.

Week one is about reframing the foundations. On the blog, Rob our head of Nutrition opens with a deep dive into boron — underused, underappreciated, and genuinely impactful for bone metabolism. Key partner, Supreme Nutrition takes us beyond calcium with a broader look at what bone health actually requires nutritionally.

And if you only do one thing this month, register for my upcoming Roadmap webinar: The Multifactorial Drivers of Bone Health — From Pathophysiology to Personalized Protocols. It's on 26th May at midday, and it's where we bring the whole picture together.

This month is for practitioners who want to move beyond the basics. We hope you'll join us for all of it.

Your client's cycle should be a clinical data point. The menstrual cycle is one of the most sensitive indicators of systemic health available in clinical practice. When it shifts - in length, flow, pain or regularity - it is reflecting changes in the physiological systems that underpin it.

A disrupted cycle is rarely a hormonal problem in isolation. It is the downstream expression of HPA axis dysregulation, thyroid insufficiency, metabolic imbalance, systemic inflammation or nutritional depletion — often in combination.

For practitioners working with women's health, treating cycle symptoms without assessing the upstream drivers is addressing the signal without investigating the source.

The cycle tells you where the system has arrived. The clinical question is how it got there, and which systems need support to restore function at the root.

What are Beta Glucans and why should you be interested?

Beta‑glucans are one of those rare ingredients that sit at the crossroads of immunity, inflammation and metabolic health. In the form used by BWH Labs (high‑purity yeast‑derived Beta‑1,3/1,6 Glucan), they become a very practical tool for nutritionists and naturopaths who want something simple, well‑researched and easy for clients to actually take.

Mucosal immunity. Metabolism. Brain health. Heart disease. Mood. Endocrine function.

They're not separate systems. And on 19th May at 6pm, Dr. Noseworthy — in partnership with Apex Energetics — is going to show you exactly how they connect.

The Neuroendocrine Immunology of Mucosal Immunity is the kind of two-hour seminar that you'll still be thinking about three months later. Tanya and David have both been in the room with Dr. Noseworthy. Both say the same thing: you do not want to miss this.

Of all the reproductive hormones, progesterone is perhaps the most underappreciated in clinical practice. Oestrogen tends to take centre stage — but progesterone is the hormone that creates the conditions for safety, stability and sustain.

In the context of the menstrual cycle, progesterone rises after ovulation to prepare the endometrium for implantation, maintain early pregnancy, and counterbalance the proliferative effects of oestrogen. When it is insufficient — whether through poor ovulation, HPA axis dysregulation, thyroid insufficiency or nutritional depletion — the consequences extend well beyond cycle symptoms.

Low progesterone is associated with luteal phase insufficiency, recurrent implantation failure, early pregnancy loss and worsening PMS. It is also a common finding in clients under chronic stress, where cortisol competes for the same precursor pathways.

Clinically, progesterone insufficiency rarely presents in isolation. It is usually a downstream reflection of ovulation quality, adrenal load, thyroid status and nutritional sufficiency — all of which are addressable through a well-structured nutritional and lifestyle approach.

When clients describe a cycle that feels unstable, anxious, or like it's working against them — progesterone is often where the clinical picture begins.

We’re delighted to announce that BWH Labs' industry‑leading BWH‑85™ Beta Glucan range has joined Amrita Nutrition. Since 1999, BWH Labs has specialised in evidence‑based immune support, creating products that truly work and offering exceptional practitioner and client support.

Beta‑1,3/1,6-Glucan is one of the most extensively studied natural immune modulators. It binds to receptors on key immune cells - macrophages, neutrophils and natural killer cells - helping them respond more efficiently. This is immune modulation, not stimulation, which makes it an invaluable tool when managing autoimmune, inflammatory or post‑viral presentations.

Trusted by clinicians worldwide, BWH‑85™ offers a reliable way to strengthen immune balance within your protocols.

When a client presents with abnormal hormone results, the result itself is rarely the whole picture.

Reproductive hormones are outputs of multiple upstream physiological systems — the HPA axis, thyroid function, metabolic health, inflammatory load and gut health all shape hormone signalling before the numbers appear on a lab report. Investigating those upstream drivers is where nutritional and functional assessment adds the most clinical value.

A result outside the reference range is worth taking seriously. Understanding what produced it is the deeper question for you to unravel!
