This is a great article that explains the Polyvagal Theory, and how our Yoga practice can help us to regulate our nervous system states. This scientific understanding confirms what the ancient Yogis had already known in their own perceptual understanding of the mind/body through the 3 Gunas.
Sun Moon Yoga classes this term are exploring this connection between ancient wisdom and modern science, using movement, postures, breath awareness and mediation to deal with emotional states that affect the body and breath. Some spaces are still available this term, both online and in person.

Polyvagal theory - what it is, what it isn't, why it makes sense and how to incorporate it in to wellbeing

New Term Yoga and Somatic Movement Classes from September -

I hope that your summer has been enjoyable and relaxing. I have just returned from Poland, the above picture being literally the pinnacle of the trip. We had plenty of walks in the mountains and also time spent with family. A very relaxing time, but also a workout!

In Poland at the moment and have not had much chance to practice formal Yoga. The walks in the mountains have been my Yoga. The moments waiting for the bus or the journeys on the train have been good opportunities for mindfulness. Yoga does not have to be on the mat at a specific time or place (although that can help).
Yoga is being here, now, whatever you are doing!

Teaching in Scarborough in October.

We are very lucky to be hosting Eric Wilkinson in October for a somatic workshop focused on spinal mobility. Somatics is a beautiful and soothing way to connect with the body but is also a very effective way to release tension and long held habits. This workshop might be of interest to anyone with chronic back pain or those looking to deepen their internal connection and awareness, or if you just love Somatics đŸ˜ŒđŸ˜ŒđŸ˜đŸ€©. Suitable for any level and experience.
You can read more about Eric and his experience (in Iyengar, Ashtanga, Satyananda and more) by heading to our website Events page.

What a wonderful weekend teaching yoga and somatics at our retreat in Unstone Grange. Cosy venue, beautiful gardens, great food, holistic treatments and the best company. Reuniting with some regulars and making new friends. Our next retreat is a day retreat here at Unstone in late July, and then another weekend in early October.

Just back from camping in the stunning Shropshire Hills—windswept, refreshed, and reminded of how healing time in Nature can be.
Now it’s back to the mat! Our new 7-week term of Yoga & Somatic Movement starts this week.

This term, we’re focusing on something we all do, all the time —breathing.
Did you know poor breathing habits can cause fatigue, brain fog, bloating, even anxiety?

In yoga, we’ll explore simple movement and breathwork (Pranayama) to release tension, improve posture, and calm the nervous system.

In somatic classes, we’ll go deeper—exploring posture, alignment, and breath to move with more ease.

Miss a class? No problem—drop-ins are welcome, and full-term bookings get a video replay.

Let’s breathe better, feel better, and move through life with more ease.
Message me to book or ask questions! 🙏

Back home now after a beautiful and inspiring few days at the Lakes.

Musings on My Time in the Lake District In the first week of April this year, I took myself off—solo and by public transport—to Buttermere, in the heart of the Lake District. I had five days to camp and explore, and I was blessed with perfect weather. But this isn’t really about the trip itsel...

Our Story

The practice of Asana brings our awareness to our physical body by observing ourselves in our present state without judgement. Then, by focusing on correct alignment in the postures, we learn to free up the joints and release tension in the muscles; equally building up strength to address any imbalances that may be causing us pain. The whole body becomes more flexible, strong and toned, and through practice, a natural weight is gained. The use of Pranayama helps to calm the nervous system and allow free movement of ‘prana’ or energy in the body. The mind also becomes more focused, and with the aid of relaxation and meditation, we can allow the mind to be present, leaving us feeling at peace.
