The situation in the world today can seem overwhelming. We may we are powerless to help. But the Dalai Lama reminds us that ‘We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.’

So as it's Christmas time, you might be looking for present ideas. Why not go for a light-hearted but thoughtful read with an underlying reiki theme? Joy is something greater than happiness. It is a limitless reservoir of long-term peace and contentment. It doesn’t depend on external factors but lives within our hearts, waiting to burst out. Joy comes from what we feel passionate about in life. It is of the soul, not of the moment.
Today, do an activity you love, meet up with a close friend, or go for a walk in nature. Find joy in the small but meaningful things in life.

Playfulness is a return to our true nature, where we see the world with wonder, through the eyes of a child. Everything is a joyous game. Playfulness is how we engage with each other just for the fun of it.
When we play, we look at things in a new way and see our situation with fresh eyes. This leads to creative thinking, spontaneity and laughter. Being playful relieves stress, helps us improve our relationships and learn new skills.
So today, try something new and unexpected, put on some music, sing, dance and just release your playful spirit.

Commitment is the willingness to give your time and energy to something you believe in. Being 99% committed isn’t enough. This leaves open a gap for convictions to falter.100% commitment is called for, meaning you are unwavering, even when times get tough.
Today think about something important in your life that you want to accomplish. Make the decision to fully commit to that goal and do whatever it takes to achieve it.

On day 7 of the 11:11 Unity challenge let’s focus on forgiveness.
Forgiveness is a conscious decision to release hurt, resentment and thoughts of revenge towards a person or situation that has harmed you. It doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing the harm done to you. But it does help free you from the control of the person or situation that hurt you. It can even lead to understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt you. It brings you peace of mind.
Sometimes self-forgiveness is called for. Often, we can be harder on ourselves than others. But accepting what we’ve done, showing remorse, repairing the damage if possible and learning to make better choices in future can help us move forward with compassion and love for ourselves.
Today can you think of anyone, or any aspect of yourself, that you are able to offer some forgiveness to….?

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens us. It is not the absence of fear, it is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Sometimes life is challenging and we feel like we are not getting anywhere. Bu if we keep trying and take small steps every day, we will eventually reach our goal.

Presence is being in the moment. It’s where we belong. It’s that still, small voice of calm right in our core.
Rather than being caught up in the endless chatter of our mind and swept up in our emotions, being present allows us to be the observer of these thoughts and feelings. Today, take a moment to sit quietly. Maybe listen to the meditation… Focus in on your breath. Just observe... and be… Notice the unity of future, past and present as you rest in the Now.
‘Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time - past and future - the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.’

On day 4 of the 11:11 Unity challenge let’s focus on trust.
Trust is the belief that someone or something can be relied on to do what they say they will. It is the cornerstone of any social relationship. It leads to cooperation between individuals, allowing them to achieve more in a group than they would on their own. And whilst we don’t always have all the answers, or see the full picture, we need to trust that ultimately everything will work out for the best.
In the meantime, embrace your vulnerability, accept yourself as you are and don’t be afraid of how others might judge you. Once you trust in yourself and your inner wisdom, you make it possible for others to trust you too. So, what promises have you made to yourself or others that you are going to keep today?

Kindness is the key to a better world. It is choosing to do something that helps others or ourselves and is motivated by genuine warm feelings, rather than a sense of duty. Often it means putting other people’s needs before our own. Being kind to others helps us feel a sense of belonging, connection and unity.
Today what can you do to be kind both to yourself and to others?

When we start to realise how much we have to be thankful for in our lives, it fills us with the desire to ‘pay this feeling forward’ to others, creating more love and unity in the world. Today, think of three things you are grateful for. Notice how that makes you feel.
