I may not have completed it but I competed and I’m proud. To think I hated any form of exercise as a child and came to running later in life that I ended up in the biggest mountain in the UK doing one of the worlds toughest races. Definitely grateful for my running club for keeping the miles in my legs and for my husband for making me run up hills when I’m on holiday and for yoga for keeping me strong and agile. I can’t be sad for not finishing. I’m come so far…

I may not have completed it but it was epic! Really proud of what I did.

Another weekend another event… I had a crazy weekend in Scotland attempting the most challenging run I’ve ever done. I’ve run 5 marathons and a half iron distance triathlon… this was another level. I attempted the Ben Nevis Skyline. I knew it would be tough.

I didn’t complete it. I did 12 miles of the 18. I got up Ben Nevis (10 miles of climbing… so proud) before the cut off point. From there there’s a ridge called the CMD which takes you to another munro and after that another ridge with an unmarked path into a valley, a climb up another ridge and then a MTB track to the finish. I’d been told there was a route I could follow to the side of the CMD which made the route palatable to me. I’ve done fell runs but nothing like this. I misunderstood - that’s the route they take if it’s bad weather. We came off the Ben and hit a boulder field that I crossed on my bum as it was slippery, my trainers just wouldn’t grip. I hit the arete and it was wet and slippery. I was just SLOW! It took 90 mins at one point to do a kilometre. I did a third of the arete alone and then a lovely guy called Clive got me to another marshal called Sarah. I overheard them on the radio basically culling me from the race. They sent my friends on ahead as they had a chance to finish before nightfall. TBH I was delighted. Beyond that arete was another one, unmarked other than by flags. It’s so remote and to my left was just a sheer drop. To get down, there was no actual path to follow. Just more rocks. And it started to snow and we had wind gusts of 50mph. My friends were more nimble and completed the race. So amazed and proud of them. My route down was about 5k over rock fields, bogs and heather with pot holes underneath and it felt endless. I was so happy to see the path at the bottom and I ran (ish) to a collection point. I was so happy to be down that the medic who checked me over actually asked me friend (they were at the finish line) if I was usually so cheerful (they thought I was ill or if I’d had a head injury). No… I was delighted to see tarmac 🤣🤣 I’m so grateful for the staff on the event. They were exceptional. And the winners were incredible. What an event and weekend!

Amazing evening. A Gentle Somatic Yoga workshop that incorporated some classic somatic movement flows (nice to be the student rather than the teacher for a change) and also tremoring to help lost locked in tension. A big thank you to James Knight, Cheryl Mason and Nikki Sandeson. This was then swiftly followed by our first home sauna since April. The cold plunge was delicious. .... Feeling the week's physicality melt away!

A photo of last week's event... A half marathon fell run. Maybe THAT'S why my legs had nothing in then today.
