Today I’m celebrating the women who quietly and powerfully lift others up. ✨

The women in my family.
The women in my friendships.
The women in my business community.
The women who show up, cheer loudly for others, and hold space when someone needs it.

I’m especially grateful for the women who notice when something isn’t said out loud and reach out anyway. That kind of care is a special kind of strength.

International Women’s Day always reminds me of a childhood tradition at school. The boys would place a small tulip or a little bucket of hyacinths on our desks. Such a simple gesture, but it made us feel seen and celebrated even at that young age.

Today I’m thinking of all the women who offer that same feeling to others. The ones who notice, encourage, support, and celebrate.

Here’s to the women who lift each other higher.
Happy International Women’s Day 🌷

🎉 7 years of building Twiddle Food 🎉

These are the 7 things I got wrong, learned slowly, and finally understand now.

What’s the biggest lesson YOU’VE learnt when building something?

The menopause conversation is missing something crucial: your gut.

Everyone talks about hot flushes, mood swings, and HRT.

Almost nobody mentions that dropping estrogen fundamentally changes your gut bacteria - which then affects:

→ How you digest food
→ How your body regulates mood
→ How you process and store fat
→ Your energy levels and mental clarity

This is why so many women suddenly develop bloating, food intolerances, and digestive issues they’ve never had before.

It’s not “just menopause”.

It’s your gut responding to hormonal changes.

I specialise in helping women understand this connection - because you can’t address menopause symptoms effectively without looking at gut health.

When you understand what’s happening in your digestive system during this transition, you can:

✔️ Support your gut bacteria through hormonal changes
✔️ Choose foods that work for your body right now
✔️ Understand which symptoms are gut-related (& can be addressed)

Trained in Culinary Medicine at , working with women navigating perimenopause and menopause in Sheffield.

Menopause isn’t just about hormones - gut health plays a bigger role than most people realise.

If your digestive system’s changed since your hormones started shifting, let’s talk.

Starting the week with intention helps everything feel more supported!

These small anchors can make a real difference:

🍛Regular meals with wholesome food that supports energy and digestion.

📆 Plan a few meals ahead and batch some dishes for the freezer can be massive time savers. Yes, it will take you time but you will be grateful when you don’t need to worry about “what’s for dinner?” while sitting on a meeting that has already overrun leaving you very little chance to cook something fresh that evening.

🧘 A moment to pause before the week starts. This maybe in a form of sitting down with your partner to plan the week and see who is doing swimming lessons or who sorts out the food shop. You may choose to do this on a different day of the week. Sundays tend to work for most people.

💕 Schedule in something that is important for you - it could be a regular walk with a friend or a dance class. Whatever makes your heart sing, add it to your week. Even if it is a tiny thing like reading a book you have been wanting to read for ages but never had the time. It will give your mind a pause and will help reset your nervous system making you more effective afterwards.

Simple choices early in the week help create rhythm and ease as the days unfold.

What are your anchors? Do they need revisiting or are they serving you well already?

Being told you have IBS can feel like the end of the conversation.

Here’s your label.
Here’s a list of foods to avoid.
Off you go.

But when you’re doing everything right – eating the “safe foods”, following the rules & your body is still reacting… that’s your body communicating, not malfunctioning.

Restriction can quiet symptoms temporarily but it doesn’t explain why they’re happening.

And for many people, the answer isn’t eating less variety... it’s understanding what’s driving gut sensitivity beneath the label.

If you’re stuck cycling through foods you no longer feel safe eating, flare ups, and confusion… your gut might be asking for investigation, not more restriction.

Have you ever been given a diagnosis but no real explanation?

Things I stopped doing as a nutrition coach after training with

❌ Tell mums their kid will “grow out of” constant tummy aches (we investigate what’s inflaming their gut instead)

❌ Overlook that chronic stress literally changes your gut bacteria - which then affects everything from cravings to metabolism

❌ Recommend probiotic yoghurts without knowing if someone’s gut lining can actually use those bacteria

❌ Ignore when clients say “healthy food makes me feel worse” (massive red flag for gut issues, not pickiness)

❌ Accept that you’ve been handed an “IBS” diagnosis and sent away with no actual answers about what’s causing it

❌ Give the same Mediterranean diet handout to everyone (your neighbour’s gut bacteria are completely different to yours)

❌ Ignore the gut-brain connection when discussing emotional eating (your gut controls most of your “happy hormones”, not your head)

❌ Throw laxatives or fibre supplements at constipation instead of addressing what’s slowing your entire digestive system down

What I do instead:
✅ Start every client relationship by understanding what’s happening in their gut - not just what’s on their plate

✅ Explain why your body might be rejecting “superfoods” (inflammation, intolerances, bacterial imbalances)

✅ Understand how gut inflammation can affect behaviour, energy, and mood in children & adults (it’s one piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture)

✅ Address the root cause - not just mask symptoms with another restrictive diet

This is what Culinary Medicine training teaches you... food is medicine, but only if your body can actually process it properly.

Ready to understand what’s actually going on in your body?

If you’ve ever tried to be “consistent” with wellness and somehow ended up more tired, more anxious, and more frustrated… this is why 👇

So much mainstream wellness advice was built around male bodies. Linear hormones, predictable energy, fast recovery.

Women don’t work like that.

We’re cyclical, responsive, sensitive to stress, under-fueling, and over-pushing – especially around PMS, postpartum, and perimenopause.

You’re not failing at wellness.

You’re just trying to follow rules that were never written for your body.

Save this & share it with a woman who needs the reminder 💙
