This time of year we all take a bit of a dip, the weather is gloomy, we’ve been waiting on Januarys payslip and our thoughts drift off to sunny 😎 climes and holidays 🏝️

Sun beds are seen by many as a method to combat these winter blues 👀

By we mean the “electrically-powered devices designed to produce tanning of the human skin by the emission of ultra-violet radiation”.

☢️ Did you know In the UK, it is illegal for anyone under 18 to use commercial sunbeds under the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010, which applies across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

⚠️ The World Health Organisation (WHO) has classed sunbeds to be as dangerous as smoking 🚬 and using a sunbed before the age of 20 increases the risk of melanoma skin cancer by 47% compared to those who have never used one (WHO).

⛔️ Recent investigations have shown that teenagers as young as 14 😨are gaining access to sun beds through tanning salons (melanomafocus 2026).

🗞️ We welcome the reports around the new proposals to further ban indoor tanning beds under the Governments National Cancer Plan which will include banning unsupervised sessions and introducing mandatory age ID checks.

Aesthetika Clinic strongly advise that indoor tanning beds should be avoided and we don’t buy the “ I’m doing it to get a base tan before my holiday” or the “it’s to boost my vitamin D” as there are other safer ways to do both of those.

This 2026 has certainly had a freezing start 🥶 and the is really not very good for our exposed .

With more snow and cold weather predicted to be on the way we suggest that you up on your as well as your clothes.

In the cold weather we automatically our bodies for warmth and protection using our thermals, scarves, 🧣 hats 🧢 and 🧤🧤 we should also be layering up on our too.

To avoid dry, sore and flaky skin focus on a good rich lathering of a moisturiser before you step out in this weather.

A moisturiser will act like a protective barrier against the biting winds and these colder ❄️ temperatures and never leave home without applying a SPF🧴

ℹ️ Why Do I Need a SPF when its Winter and Freezing Outside🥶 ?

Because the suns 🔆 ultraviolet rays are constant, they are there all year round and pe*****te through cloud 🌧️ , it’s not so much about the heat (or lack of it) it is about the . We know rays cause premature ageing, wrinkled skin, sun spots and over time contribute to .

So if you are in a rush and dont have time to apply both a and a before you go out we advise a SPF over a moisturiser, your skin will thank you when you use both.

The good news is the snowdrops have started to emerge and the daylight ☀️ hours here in the Northern Hemisphere are getting slightly longer making way for the lighter evenings.

FGM: Female ge***al mutilation is a horrific crime that subjects women and girls to brutal gender-based violence.

Even in 2025, it is still taking place in this country.

Female ge***al mutilation (FGM) involves any procedure that removes part or all of the external female ge***alia, or any procedure that involves injury to the female ge***al organs for non-medical reasons. It can be carried anytime from birth and right up until a woman is married. It is illegal and incredibly painful, causing terrible physical and psychological problems.

Our force has established strong partnerships and worked to support victims of this crime in order to raise awareness and ultimately work towards our end goal of eradicating these forms of abuse against women and girls.

If you are concerned about someone you know who may be at risk of FGM or you have experienced it, please contact us on 101 or 999 if it is an emergency. Our specially trained officers are here to support you.

It is said that the average woman has tried 42 different -ageing skin products by the age of 50. On this Cheryl, in her no nonsense way goes on to say “that’s a lot of different creams and at a cost of some hundreds and hundreds of pounds to you-many of these products have little or no scientific evidence that they will do what they say on the tin”.

We cater for both men and women over the age of 18, and we specialise in the Ageing Face.
