We’re excited to share our new report, A Change is Gonna Come: Addiction in Under-served UK Communities (link in bio). It highlights the unique challenges different communities face with addiction, barriers, and the limitations of conventional treatment services.

Key findings include practical solutions and the creation of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (LEROS) as an effective path forward.

Our research is also linked to the award-winning documentary, I’m Jit and I’m an Alcoholic (link in bio) , which has sparked deep discussions nationwide. These conversations have been inspiring, showcasing recovery’s positive societal impact.

Another well attended screening of I’m Jit and I’m an alcoholic. Many emotions and heartfelt questions asked 🗣️

There seems to be certain patterns emerging around the questions and solutions. A recovery solution which is more tailored to those communities they are supporting 🤔

A funded culturally appropriate LERO would be helpful to start with🤞🏽

September is international recovery month and so it was a real privilege to partner with Jit as he shared his award winning documentary of overcoming alcohol addiction with those in recovery in prison.

The discussion that followed was what real impact is all about. I’m still speechless by the vulnerability and openness shared by the guys especially given their context as serving lifers in prison. Bravo to them for taking the steps to recover in some of the most difficult circumstances.

At present 5 pints of alcohol per inmate per day is being brewed internally within the prison. When I explained to a friend of mine recently that some prisons have drug free wings, she was in shock as she naturally assumed that prisons were drug free.

Today I spoke to one middle aged gentleman who said he was 2 years abstinent before entering prison but since starting his sentence he is using drugs again.

We can do better!!!

Addiction, in particular alcoholism can impact anyone. From any background, faith and culture. Any walk of life 😔

There is hope though. Come and watch I’m Jit and I’m an alcoholic to see one example of how those in need can turn their life around 🙏🏽
