Some of my thoughts on boundaries and self-care...

I’ve been in the garden, hunched over flower beds, focused on what I can plant out that will make the flower pots pop with colour when Spring returns next year. It got me thinking about the regularly used metaphor of planting seeds and encouraging growth as an act of emotional self-care.

I've given my website a bit of a flick and a dust and beginning the new blog page with an old post from 2019 which still feels very relevant - to me at least..!

As a first blog entry on my new website, I'm cheating - the following is from a piece that I penned back in 2019. It's about my fascination and obsession with books, which remains a habit that is still currently out of hand and evidenced this morning by the arrival of a collaboration of summer ghost...

An infuriating read, but a necessary one... have we really reached a point where young women are required to provide photographic evidence that they are on their periods?

As one school demands that its pupils provide medical ‘evidence’ of period pain to take sick days, Olivia Petter examines just how damaging this messaging is for young girls

This seems to be a theme in the office at the moment, the possibility of creating distraction-free time away from the negative spoon-feeding, and an opportunity to side-step the bull@ #£%... what may change if we gift ourselves this opportunity..? 🙏

The world is increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn't very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more?
How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smartphone? By making them feel like they are being left behind.
To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business. ~Matt Haig

About Me

Welcome to my page. I understand that there are times when we can all feel very "stuck". However, I hold a belief that talking therapies are a very useful tool for encouraging self-development on many different issues. Counselling provides the time to talk about problems, concerns, thoughts and feelings. Being able to speak freely and honestly without fear of being judged is an important part of the therapeutic healing process. I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist in various clinical settings including the NHS, Women's Aid, and Cruse. I currently operate a small but busy private practice and take self-referrals as well as referrals from GP’s, health professionals, EAP providers, charity organisations and occupational health. I also offer clinical supervision to other therapists and student counsellors. I am a registered member of the BACP and offer both short term and long term therapy. I have a keen interest in unresolved loss and bereavement in childhood and how this can impact on people emotionally in adulthood. I counsel clients on a wide range of relationship issues and have valuable experience in areas ranging from the trauma of domestic abuse, relationship problems and depression. Making an appointment is easy. Either telephone or text on the number above or alternatively send me an email and we can arrange a mutually suitable day and appointment time for a clinical assessment. I cannot always answer my phone immediately, if that is the case, then please leave a message with your name and contact details and I will return your call. During the assessment a personal history is taken and goals or objectives can be discussed. It gives my clients the opportunity to ask any questions they may have regarding the counselling process and determine how they feel about beginning therapy.
