REINCARNATION - Science of the Soul or Wishful Thinking ?
There is a popular belief, that life is due simply to a complex combination of matter, and when this combination of matter (or body) stops working, the individual ceases to exist!
But there is also another understanding:
That bodies consisting of inanimate matter (described as the inferior energy) are only vehicles, and in a similar way to a driver taking control of a car, they become animated due to the presence of a superior energy; which constitutes the conscious self (or Soul).
In due time when the body ceases to function properly, the superior energy leaves the body, rendering the inferior energy inanimate.
The Bhagavad-Gita describes this change like a person taking off an old coat and putting on a new one!
The contention being that the superior energy (conscious self or soul) is constant and imperishable,
and at the time of death simply enters another suitable body (or vehicle) at conception, according to the subtle laws of nature.
